Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager
Location: Northern California (Bay Area & Sonora)

Our client is a growing General Contractor specializing in the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Northern California. With a strong backlog of work and projects valued up to $100M, they are looking for a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager to join the team and grow into a long-term leadership role.
About the Role
You'll initially be assigned to a major water infrastructure project in Sonora, CA for approximately 4–6 months. During this period, the company provides:
- Fully covered accommodation
- $70/day tax-free per diem
- The opportunity to work on a high-profile project alongside an experienced project team
Following completion of the Sonora project, you'll transition onto future projects located primarily throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, minimizing long-term travel.
Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager with the day-to-day delivery of water and wastewater construction projects
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and self-perform field crews
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
- Assist with scheduling, cost tracking, procurement, and material management
- Perform field walks, quality inspections, and ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with project specifications
- Work closely with owners, engineers, inspectors, and field personnel to keep projects progressing on schedule
- Assist with project closeout, commissioning, and turnover documentation
What We're Looking For
- Experience as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or Assistant Project Manager on heavy civil, mechanical, utility, or water/wastewater projects
- Understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience with project management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project is beneficial
- Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred, but equivalent construction experience will also be considered
- Willingness to spend the first 4–6 months working in Sonora before transitioning to Bay Area projects
