Analytical Chemist
Job Description
The Junior Analytical Chemist supports laboratory testing and analysis in a regulated GMP/GLP environment, with a strong focus on bench work. This role centers on sample preparation, routine analytical testing, and accurate data generation under the guidance of senior scientists. It is well suited for someone with 1–2 years of industry experience, or strong academic laboratory experience, who wants to build hands-on analytical expertise in a GMP setting.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine analytical testing using established methods such as HPLC, GC, LC/MS, ICP-MS, and ELISA.
- Prepare samples, reagents, and standards in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Execute experiments and assays by following pre-validated methods and protocols.
- Accurately record, document, and report data in laboratory notebooks or within a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Assist with data analysis and preparation of result summaries under supervision from senior scientists.
- Support the maintenance, calibration, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment that meets safety and quality standards.
- Assist in updating SOPs and related documentation as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to support project timelines and deliverables, ensuring work is completed on schedule.
Essential Skills
- 1–2 years of laboratory experience, preferably in an industry setting, or strong academic laboratory experience.
- Hands-on familiarity with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, and UV-based systems.
- Foundational knowledge of analytical chemistry principles.
- Basic understanding of GMP and GLP laboratory environments.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow defined procedures and SOPs accurately.
- Ability to manage multiple samples and tasks effectively in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
- Strong documentation skills for recording and reporting experimental data.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a laboratory team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Experience with additional analytical techniques such as LC/MS, ICP-MS, and ELISA.
- Prior exposure to regulated laboratory environments operating under GMP or GLP standards.
- Interest in developing deeper expertise in analytical chemistry and regulated laboratory practices.
Work Environment
This position is fully onsite five days per week in a bench-based, wet laboratory environment. The role involves extensive hands-on work with analytical instruments and routine handling of samples, reagents, and standards in a GMP/GLP setting. The laboratory emphasizes adherence to safety and quality standards, maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant workspace while supporting a fast-paced schedule and multiple concurrent projects.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hercules, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
