This role serves as the central point of contact for all IT-related support requests, providing first-line technical assistance across a distributed enterprise environment.

Position Overview

The IT Service Desk Technician is responsible for delivering front-line technical support via phone and remote tools (approximately 90% of the role), assisting end users with hardware, software, and connectivity issues. This role requires strong troubleshooting capabilities, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple support requests while meeting established service level agreements (SLAs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming IT support requests via phone, voicemail, and ticketing system
  • Manage, track, and resolve incidents using the IT Service Management platform
  • Monitor and triage ticket queues, ensuring timely assignment and escalation of issues
  • Provide first-level technical support across all locations, including:
    • PC hardware and peripherals
    • Microsoft Windows 10 and Office 365
    • Network connectivity, VPN access, and printers
    • Mobile devices and telephony systems
    • Proprietary and business-critical applications
  • Resolve 70-80% of support requests at first contact, escalating complex issues when necessary
  • Administer user access, including AS400/Client Access accounts, and troubleshoot printing and Windows-related system issues
  • Collaborate with internal IT teams to ensure effective issue resolution and communication
  • Follow established escalation procedures for critical incidents and outages
  • Proactively communicate system issues, outages, or changes that may impact service volume or availability
  • Create and maintain knowledge base documentation for end users and IT staff
  • Ensure all tickets are updated, documented, and resolved in accordance with SLAs
  • Adhere to company policies, IT standards, and professional code of conduct

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of IT support or Service Desk experience in a professional environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional customer service
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across:
    • Windows operating systems (Windows 10)
    • Microsoft Office 365 suite
    • Web browsers (Chrome, Edge)
    • Endpoint security/antivirus tools
  • Experience supporting:
    • Hardware and peripherals
    • Printers and print services
    • VPN and network connectivity
    • Mobile devices and telephony systems
  • Working knowledge of IT security best practices

Preferred:

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or HDI certification
  • Experience working with enterprise ticketing systems
  • Familiarity with AS400/Client Access environments

Work Environment & Requirements

  • Primarily remote/phone-based support with occasional onsite user assistance
  • Ability to lift and transport IT equipment (PCs, monitors, peripherals)
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use
  • Occasional travel (up to 10%) within the San Diego area or for training
  • Availability for after-hours, weekend, or holiday support as needed
