POSITION SUMMARY:
A Tiny Tots staff is responsible for the direct supervision and management of a group of children, no more than 13 per staff, as instructed by the Program Director. Tiny Tots staff are to help create a nurturing, connected, and meaningful YMCA experience for all. This position is part-time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
GENERAL FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Program Director, the Tiny Tots staff assists in the development, organization, and implementation of a youth program. The Tiny Tots staff is responsible for the supervision and management of children enrolled in the YMCA program and reports to the Program Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the planning, preparation, implementation, and cleanup of the daily activity and interest centers.
- Ensure that materials and supplies needed for daily activities are present.
- Supervise children in all activity areas, ensuring the proper and safe use of facilities and equipment.
- Attend all staff meetings and training programs.
- Interact with the children, being consistent, fair, and treating them with dignity and respect.
- Communicate daily with the parents by always greeting and acknowledging them upon arrival; discuss any behavioral or other concerns and/or highlight positive behaviors.
- Be sure that all children are signed in and out daily.
- Assist in maintaining required records of program participants.
- Always maintain professionalism and act as a YMCA staff
- Supports the policies, procedures, and philosophy of the West End YMCA
- Follow all guidelines and regulations of the West End YMCA
- Follow safe ratios: 2 staff to 26 kids
- Responsible for creating crafts and being interactive with kids in the program
- Responsible for keeping room clean and checking off cleaning list
- Make sure all participants being dropped off have a family membership
- Foster a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Refrain from using personal electronics while supervising children.
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Accurately document incidents and report them promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
- Limit eating to designated breaks before or after shifts in the staff lounge.
- This is an in-person job and duties as such cannot be performed remotely.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be willing to interact with children.
- Experience working with children.
- Must enjoy working with children and be highly dependable.
- Should have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the needs of others, and be willing to fulfill the job responsibilities in accordance with the program goals.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Criminal record clearance by undergoing fingerprint background check prior to reporting for work.
- Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
- Complete Child Abuse Prevention and Health and Safety training before beginning employment.
- Able to relate well and communicate to both children and adults.
- Adult/Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification required (to be attained within 30 days of hire)
- Responsible for reporting to work on time, adhering to appropriate dress code for position and department of responsibility.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees are required to be able to perform all the following essential functions of the job, either with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents
- Physical and mental ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
- Physical ability to lead active sports, games and curriculum activities
- Be able to monitor behavior requiring physical separation
- Help with general housekeeping to include but not limited to: cleaning bathrooms, wiping down tables and appliances, sweeping/mopping, vacuuming floors, taking out trash, and locking all doors.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or move up to [40] pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
