CNC Machinist’s responsibilities include producing programs in accordance with company standards, to include (but not limited to): working closely with other teammates and providing hands-on program ‘proofing’ prior to releasing the programs to the Shop floor. The candidate must make use of the ‘best practices’ within the commercial and aerospace industries exhibiting a high level of quality and attention to detail.
Ideal candidates will be able to produce programs using NX (Unigraphics) software and read drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.100-2000 and MIL-DTL-31000C including Metric. Have knowledge (an awareness) of MIL-SPECS, MIL-STDS and commercial standards typical of DoD contracts. Have an understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per Y14.5M-1994 standard. Be able to operate multi-axis CNC lathe machines with live tooling and Y-Axis. Produce and implement the instructions for shop floor Router and/or Work Flow documentation. Be able define the needed tooling and fixtures used for the production of parts.
Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have sufficient experience to adjust the cutting parameters to accommodate different materials, the fixity of the part(s) and surface finishes and be able to adjust the finished part’s profile to allow for plating processes (after machining).
Three compensation categories are established based on the degree to which the candidate demonstrates mastery of the above requirements and breadth of relevant experience with each of the above requirements as well as education and number of years working with relevant projects.
- CNC Mill Operator I – High School (or equivalency) education with 0 to 5 years of related experience and master some of the above requirements.
- CNC Mill Operator II – High School (or equivalency) education along with additional training in certified course material with 5 to 15 years of related experience and master most of the above requirements.
- CNC Mill Operator III – 15 plus years of direct experience in similar work and a mastery of all the above requirements or a college degree (in Engineering related subject matter) or similar formal education with 5 plus years of related experience.
