This role supports the Environmental team by helping ensure that the facility, grounds, and property remain clean, well-maintained, and compliant with environmental regulations. You will perform a wide range of physical, hands-on tasks in a scrap metal yard and production environment, contributing directly to safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations.
Responsibilities
- Support the Environmental team in maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant facility, both indoors and outdoors.
- Clean and sweep work areas, walkways, and production spaces to remove dust, debris, and waste.
- Move materials and scrap metal safely around the yard and production areas using appropriate tools and methods.
- Eliminate debris and waste from the facility, ensuring proper disposal and adherence to environmental guidelines.
- Perform general facility upkeep, including basic maintenance and housekeeping tasks as directed.
- Work in the scrap metal yard to support production activities, including material handling and sorting.
- Assist with picking, loading, and unloading shipments of metal and other materials.
- Carry out general cleaning and maintenance tasks in production and yard areas to support smooth operations.
- Dispose of trash and debris by sweeping, shoveling, and transporting waste to designated locations.
- Use pressure washers on equipment and surfaces to maintain cleanliness and safe working conditions.
- Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working around heavy machinery and moving parts.
- Respond to additional tasks and duties as requested by supervisors to support daily operational needs.
- Collaborate with team members and communicate clearly to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience working in an outdoor environment such as construction, landscaping, or similar outdoor labor.
- Experience performing general labor tasks, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials in a physically demanding setting.
- Background in construction, landscaping, or comparable outdoor work environments.
- Ability to perform cleaning and janitorial duties in industrial or yard settings.
- Comfort working around heavy machinery, moving parts, loud noises, and dusty conditions.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment consistently.
- English language proficiency to understand instructions and safety guidelines.
- Willingness and availability to work overtime, including some Saturdays as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with general construction or industrial labor environments.
- Janitorial or facility maintenance experience in outdoor or industrial settings.
- Bilingual Spanish and English communication skills (preferred but not required).
- Ability to work effectively in both indoor and outdoor areas, including partially covered structures and open yards.
- Reliability and strong work ethic, with a focus on teamwork and safety.

Work Environment
The role is based at a steel, metal, and auto recycling facility that has operated for over a century. The site includes an indoor production area and a large outdoor yard with heavy machinery, moving equipment, loud noise levels, and dusty conditions. You will primarily work in the Joint Products department, which is partially indoors under a structure but still closely connected to yard operations. The current shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with Saturday overtime as needed, typically about two Saturdays per month. The dress code requires steel-toe shoes, long pants, and a plain T-shirt or sweater, with a high-visibility vest worn as the outer layer; vests are provided on site.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
