Job Description

The Hospital Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities for hospital facility projects throughout the Los Angeles area. This position ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents, hospital requirements, and applicable HCAI codes. The Superintendent serves as the primary field representative, coordinating subcontractors, communicating with project stakeholders, and maintaining a productive, safe work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise all on-site construction activities for hospital renovation and new construction projects.
  • Coordinate and direct subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to project schedules.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules to meet milestones and completion dates.
  • Enforce all company safety policies, HCAI regulations, and hospital-specific safety and infection control requirements.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Read, interpret, and implement construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and project documents.
  • Communicate regularly with the Project Manager regarding project progress, schedule, budget, quality, and potential issues.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with hospital administrators, facility staff, inspectors, architects, engineers, and owners.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and approvals with local authorities and healthcare facility representatives.
  • Identify and resolve field issues proactively to minimize delays and maintain project momentum.
  • Prepare daily reports documenting manpower, work completed, weather conditions, safety observations, and project progress.
  • Monitor material deliveries and ensure proper storage and installation.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable building codes, healthcare regulations, and contract requirements.
  • Manage project closeout activities, including punch lists, final inspections, and turnover documentation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent, on hospital construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, sequencing, and project management principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Working knowledge of HCAI safety regulations and healthcare construction standards, including ICRA procedures.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and maintain project schedules in an active healthcare environment.
  • Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Los Angeles area.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk construction sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders, navigate uneven terrain, and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times while on-site.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based on active hospital construction sites throughout the Los Angeles area. Work may involve occupied healthcare facilities where maintaining safety, cleanliness, infection control, and minimizing disruption to hospital operations are critical.
