Position SummaryThe Store Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Vermont Outlet. Working closely with ownership, you will oversee store operations, coach and develop Associates, drive sales growth, manage inventory, and ensure every customer receives the outstanding service that has defined Vermont Outlet for more than 75 years.
This is a hands-on leadership position. You'll spend your time on the sales floor coaching your team, helping customers, solving problems, and continuously improving store performance.
Unlike large corporate retailers, you'll have the opportunity to make meaningful decisions, influence the direction of the business, and build long-term relationships with customers and Associates alike.
Work ScheduleThis is a full-time exempt leadership position.
Store Managers are expected to work the hours necessary to successfully operate the business, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Typical store hours are:
- Morning Shift: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Evening Shift: 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM
The schedule generally includes five days per week, including at least one weekend day.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, mentor, and motivate Associates.
- Foster a positive, respectful, team-oriented work environment.
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and develop new Associates.
- Conduct performance coaching and evaluations.
- Coordinate True Value University (TVU) training and on-the-job training.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Customer Experience
- Lead by example in delivering outstanding customer service.
- Build relationships with homeowners, contractors, apartment managers, USC students, and neighborhood customers.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
- Ensure every customer leaves with the right products and solutions.
Store Operations
- Oversee daily operations and workflow.
- Ensure departments remain clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Maintain merchandising standards throughout the store.
- Supervise receiving, inventory control, pricing, and merchandising.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and safety standards.
Sales & Business Development
- Drive sales growth and profitability.
- Analyze store performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with ownership to achieve sales and operational goals.
- Encourage suggestive selling and strong product knowledge.
- Support marketing initiatives and community involvement.
Administrative & Financial Responsibilities
- Oversee daily cash management and store reporting.
- Monitor inventory levels and purchasing.
- Assist ownership with budgeting and operational planning.
- Maintain accurate records and operational procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and applicable laws.
QualificationsWe're looking for someone who:
- Has outstanding customer service and leadership skills.
- Has a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Leads by example and enjoys working alongside the team.
- Has excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Is organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Can work independently with minimal supervision.
- Is available to work a flexible schedule, including one weekend day.
- Has strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, email, and point-of-sale systems.
- Has good math and analytical skills.
- Has experience with inventory management and merchandising.
- Has at least five years of management experience in a hardware store, home improvement center, lumberyard, building materials supplier, or related retail environment.
- Has strong knowledge of hardware, paint, plumbing, electrical, tools, building materials, and home improvement products.
- Is bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
- Has military leadership experience (valued and considered when determining starting compensation).
- Is legally authorized to work in the United States and can complete E-Verify.
- Proximity within 10 miles of the store.
Physical RequirementsThe successful candidate must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, squat, reach, climb, and stock merchandise.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Safely move products throughout the store.
- Assist Associates with physical tasks as needed.
Compensation & BenefitsIn addition to a competitive salary, Vermont Outlet offers a comprehensive benefits package valued at approximately $7,000-$9,500 annually, depending on eligibility.
