Job Description
We are seeking a Communications Specialist to support corporate communications in a biotech or biopharma environment. In this role, you develop and execute internal and external communications, translating complex scientific and research concepts into clear, accessible messaging for a variety of audiences. You use strong writing and editing skills to shape corporate narratives, support strategic initiatives, and ensure consistent, high-quality communications across channels. You work independently in a lean organization, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate cross-functionally to drive impactful communication strategies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute internal and external corporate communications that support organizational goals within a biotech or biopharma environment.
- Translate complex scientific, laboratory, and research concepts into clear, concise, and accessible messaging for non-technical and technical audiences.
- Write, edit, and proofread a wide range of communication materials, including corporate announcements, presentations, digital content, and public relations materials.
- Support corporate communications strategy by crafting key messages, ensuring consistency of tone and style, and aligning content with organizational priorities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with scientific, research, and corporate teams to gather information and develop accurate, engaging communications.
- Manage multiple communication projects and priorities simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a lean, fast-paced environment.
- Work independently to identify communication needs, propose solutions, and take ownership of deliverables from concept through execution.
- Partner with public relations agencies or PR stakeholders as needed to support media-related communications and corporate visibility.
- Use tools such as Keynote, Google Suite, and Canva to create and refine presentations and visual communication materials.
- Maintain strong attention to communication style, urgency, and proactivity, ensuring timely and effective dissemination of information.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as an outstanding writer and editor supporting corporate communications in a biotech or biopharma environment.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific and research concepts into clear, accessible messaging.
- Strong corporate communications and public relations skills, including experience with PR-related content.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects in a lean organizational setting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- High attention to communication style, tone, urgency, and proactive outreach.
- Proficiency with Keynote and Google Suite for creating and managing presentations and documents.
- Comfort collaborating cross-functionally with scientific, laboratory, research, and corporate teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Background in science is beneficial but not required.
- Experience working with or alongside PR agencies.
- Familiarity with laboratory and research environments and terminology.
- Experience using Canva or similar design tools to support visual communications.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking in developing and implementing communication plans.
- Ability to thrive in a lean, fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid work environment, combining remote work with time on-site as needed to collaborate with teams and support corporate initiatives. You work within a lean organization where you have the opportunity to take ownership, make a strategic impact on communications, and partner closely with scientific, laboratory, research, and corporate stakeholders. Commonly used technologies and tools include Keynote, Google Suite, and Canva for creating presentations, documents, and visual materials. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
