Position Summary
The Activities Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the facility's Activity Department in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures. Working closely with the interdisciplinary team, this position ensures residents receive a well-rounded activities program that supports their physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and psychosocial well-being.
Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and oversee a comprehensive resident activities program.
- Prepare and maintain monthly activity calendars.
- Organize and lead recreational, therapeutic, educational, cultural, spiritual, and social activities.
- Assess resident interests and abilities to develop meaningful individual and group programs.
- Encourage resident participation while promoting independence and dignity.
- Coordinate holiday celebrations, special events, entertainment, and community outings.
- Collaborate with nursing, therapy, social services, and other departments to support resident care plans.
- Recruit, train, and supervise activity staff and volunteers as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation and department records.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and facility regulations governing resident activities.
- Manage department supplies, equipment, and budget.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Activities Director in a Skilled Nursing Facility is required.
- Activity Director Certification required or eligible under California regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional education is a plus).
- Current First Aid certification preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work independently.
