Consumer Affairs Specialist (Contract)
Location: Emeryville, CA
Pay: $25 to $30 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week, Onsite
Duration: Approximately 8-11 months (July 2026-May 2027)
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a highly organized and proactive Consumer Affairs Specialist to serve as the central point of contact for consumer affairs, customer complaints, supplier compliance, and product issue coordination across a retail environment. This role will partner closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers to support quality, regulatory, and food safety initiatives while helping protect brand integrity and consumer trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain documentation required for Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) compliance for imported products.
- Audit supplier records and documentation to ensure accuracy and annual compliance requirements are met.
- Support regulatory audit readiness by coordinating documentation and partnering with cross-functional teams.
- Assist with ad hoc regulatory, compliance, and quality-related initiatives across the business.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for consumer affairs activities and customer concerns.
- Coordinate investigations and responses related to product quality issues and customer complaints.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely communication, documentation, and resolution of concerns.
- Support efforts that strengthen customer satisfaction and brand reputation.
- Lead and coordinate projects related to product issues, compliance initiatives, and recall activities.
- Ensure alignment among Quality Assurance, Legal, Marketing, Operations, Customer Service, and other stakeholders.
- Track project milestones, deliverables, and action items while maintaining clear communication across teams.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational enhancements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Public Health, Business, or a related field required.
- 5+ years of experience in consumer affairs, food safety, product quality, regulatory compliance, or a related field.
- Experience managing product recalls, consumer complaints, or crisis communications.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Knowledge of FDA, USDA, and food safety regulations.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and data analysis.
- Self-starter with the ability to lead initiatives and drive process improvements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FSVP compliance and supplier documentation management.
- Familiarity with recall and complaint tracking systems such as Recall Info Link, SAP, Salesforce, or Intelex.
- Call center or consumer support experience.
- Bilingual language skills.
- Knowledge of food labeling, traceability, and supply chain operations.
- PMP certification is a plus.
- Master's degree is a plus.
