JOB SUMMARY:
The registered dental assistant with extended functions will assist the dentist in caring for the dental needs of our patients. The registered dental assistant with extended functions may also perform various associated dental office activities as requested. The registered dental assistant with extended functions will work under the supervision of the dentists.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Take dental radiographs
- Take patient history and vital signs
- Assist the dentist during a variety of treatments and procedures
- Follow infection control protocol, prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment
- Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, under direction of dentist or hygienist
- Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health, under direction of dentist or hygienist
- Perform office tasks that require the use of a computer
- Communicate with patients and suppliers as needed
- Demonstrate high level of interpersonal and communication skills necessary to consistently receive and greet visitors, patients, and staff members, in a professional manner
- Enter the required information on the electronic medical records for each patient
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
- Maintain patient files, records, and other information
- Clean and prepare operatories between patients
- All RDA functions as allowed by the Dental Board of California
- Conduct preliminary evaluation of the patient’s oral health, including, but not limited to, charting, intramural and extra-oral evaluation of soft tissue, classifying occlusion, and myofunctional evaluation.
- Cord retraction of gingiva for impressions
- Size and fit endodontic master points and accessory points
- Place, contour, finish, and adjust all direct restorations
- Adjust and cement permanent indirect restorations
- Apply pit and fissure sealants
- Take final impressions for tooth-borne removable prosthesis
- Take final impressions for permanent indirect restorations
- Maintain Licensure with Dental Board of California
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus RDA license. Prefer at least six 3 years experience. Successful completion of a Board approved RDAEF program.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, complete short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of the organization.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform mathematical skills necessary for medication administration, and other skills as needed.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Interpersonal skills: It is very important that the RDAEF have good people skills, and be able to deal with patients in a kind, compassionate, manner. The RDAEF should be able to deal with unhappy patients or difficult situations, and always be professional and courteous.
