About the Role:
This is a special, family-owned business and a great place to work for the right person. We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Bakery Retail Associate to join our team. This role is responsible for providing excellent customer service, assisting with the display and packaging of baked goods, processing sales transactions, and maintaining a clean and inviting retail environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about food, enjoys interacting with people and thrives in a fast-paced setting. Whether it’s helping a customer choose the perfect pastry or ensuring the shelves are fully stocked, the Retail Associate plays a key role in delivering a warm and memorable bakery experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service—while maintaining a steady work pace
- Assist customers by serving baked goods, taking phone orders, answering questions
- Familiarize yourself with our products and services, properly operating machinery behind the counter
- Process sales transactions, refunds, handling cash properly, assisting customers by bagging items
- Maintain sales floor and display cases properly stocked, organized, track expiry dates
- Follow all health and food safety regulations, sanitation procedures, and company policies
- Follow opening/closing procedures, work together with your team to ensure all daily tasks have been fulfilled
- Assist in other areas as needed

- Provide outstanding customer service
- Communicate clearly and effectively, quick problem solving
- Strong sense of teamwork
- Highly organized, attentive to detail
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements of the Job:
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Lift, carry, move 30lbs.
- Bend, reach consistently
- Comfortable using knives and the bread slicer, working near pizza ovens behind bakery counter
Certifications:
- Food Handler Certificate
- CA Harassment Prevention Training

When owners, and siblings, Sara, Peter and Tony Wilson purchased the BART adjacent property and started building in 1987, the food world was coming out of a convenience-induced slumber and there was a burgeoning excitement about real food. The Wilsons gathered co-conspirators (Paul Marcus Wines was one of the first tenants) to establish a spirit of independence and dedication to quality in the DNA of Rockridge Market Hall. The Wilsons and the merchants behind each of the shops, the employees and the customers are all part of this Oakland institution. Rockridge Market Hall is proud to be a business in this risk-taking, diverse and passionate city.
