Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification with specialization in Visual Impairment or comparable credential
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, preferably in K-12 school settings
- Thorough knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional strategies
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborative approach with classroom educators, families, and related specialists
Role Responsibilities:
- Assess student needs to determine the best accommodations and individualized instruction plans
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive devices
- Adapt classroom materials and instructional methods to optimize accessibility
- Train and support faculty and staff on working with visually impaired students
- Monitor student progress, prepare reports, and engage in IEP meetings
- Foster an inclusive, encouraging classroom environment that supports growth and independence
