We are seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to join our facilities operations team. The role involves performing general, preventative, and emergency maintenance of facilities equipment, with a strong focus on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and process systems operation and maintenance. The successful candidate will contribute to day-to-day operations, which may include tasks outside their normal skill set, such as restroom repairs and exposure to unfamiliar work.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on refrigeration units, air handling systems, chillers, and HVAC infrastructure.
- Monitor system performance using Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support HVAC needs in production and common space areas.
- Execute root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions for recurring issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and energy efficiency standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system performance, and parts inventory.
- Support commissioning of new systems and retrofits of existing infrastructure.
- Proficiency in installing, maintaining, and repairing air conditioning units, furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, chillers, air handlers, VAVs, ductwork, thermostats, and control systems.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with commercial/industrial refrigeration and air handling systems, with a willingness to consider candidates with at least 1 year of experience.
- EPA Universal Certification is required; additional HVAC/R certifications are a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and O&M manuals.
- Experience with VFDs, PLCs, and automated control systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, mechanical repairs, and preventive maintenance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Crane/rigging experience preferred.
- Experience with motor replacements, pumps and fittings repair, and pipe replacement.
- Knowledge of cooling tower and RTU components.
- Proficiency in brazing, welding, and mechanical emergency shutdowns.
- Familiarity with CMMS and refrigerants.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-tech environments with minimal supervision.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, safety-first mindset.

Work Environment
You will be working onsite at the Kato Fremont location, with travel to the Fremont Factory as needed. The team consists of 15 technicians, excluding engineers. The shift is typically from Sunday through Thursday, with a start time between 2 PM and 3 PM, subject to change.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fremont, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
