Job Title: Fitness Manager

Job Summary

As the Fitness Manager at our boutique gym, you will lead and grow our personal training and group training programs while overseeing the fitness team that powers them. This role is built for a proven fitness leader with a track record of recruiting, hiring, and developing personal trainers into a high-performing, profitable training department. You'll drive training revenue, expand our group training program, and create a motivating environment where trainers thrive and members get results. You will also support day-to-day gym operations to ensure a best-in-class member experience.

Responsibilities

1. Personal Training Department Leadership (Primary Focus)

  • Build, lead, and scale a profitable personal training department, owning its revenue and growth targets.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard personal trainers, maintaining a strong pipeline of qualified coaching talent.
  • Develop trainers through structured coaching, ongoing education, session audits, and clear career pathways.
  • Set individual trainer performance goals (session volume, client retention, revenue) and hold the team accountable through regular one-on-ones and performance reviews.
  • Drive client acquisition for personal training, including converting new members, running fitness assessments/consultations, and coaching trainers on how to sell and retain clients.
  • Monitor PT department KPIs (sessions serviced, client retention, average revenue per client, trainer utilization) and adjust strategy to hit monthly targets.

2. Group Training Program Growth

  • Own the growth and profitability of the group training program, from class schedule design to attendance and retention.
  • Develop and implement engaging large group fitness programs and classes that reflect member demand and drive membership value.
  • Coach group training classes and set the standard for coaching quality, energy, and member experience.
  • Recruit and develop group coaches, ensuring consistent programming and delivery across the schedule.
  • Track class attendance, capacity utilization, and member feedback to continuously optimize the schedule.

3. Team Leadership and Culture

  • Supervise the fitness team, ensuring every trainer and coach delivers exceptional service to members.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, provide performance feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive, motivating, team-first culture that attracts and retains top coaching talent.

4. Sales and Membership Support

  • Partner with ownership to drive membership growth and retention, with an emphasis on converting members into training clients.
  • Conduct tours and consultations with prospective members, ensuring a high conversion rate into memberships and training programs.
  • Collaborate with marketing on promotional campaigns, challenges, and community outreach that feed the training programs.
  • Monitor sales metrics, analyze trends, and adjust strategies to achieve revenue targets.

5. Member Experience

  • Ensure exceptional customer service is provided to all members and guests.
  • Address and resolve member concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that promotes member satisfaction, results, and loyalty.

6. Gym Operations Support

  • Oversee day-to-day floor operations, ensuring the gym runs smoothly during training hours.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the facility and equipment.
  • Support inventory, supplies, and equipment maintenance as needed.

7. Financial Accountability

  • Own the P&L for the personal training and group training programs, ensuring revenue and profitability targets are met.
  • Monitor and analyze training department financial performance, implementing strategies for revenue optimization.
  • Prepare regular performance and financial reports for ownership.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience recruiting, hiring, and developing personal trainers into a profitable training department (required).
  • Track record of growing personal training and/or group training revenue in a gym or studio setting.
  • Nationally recognized personal training certification (NASM, ACE, NSCA, ISSA, or equivalent); CPR/AED certified.
  • Strong coaching ability with experience leading group training classes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and sales skills.
  • Experience with fitness management software and KPI-driven performance management a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Sports Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience in a managerial role within the fitness industry.
  • Strong knowledge of fitness equipment, programs, and industry trends.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to drive sales and achieve targets.
  • Customer-focused approach with a passion for delivering exceptional service.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in using fitness management software and Microsoft Office applications.

As the Fitness Manager / General Manager, you will play a crucial role in creating a positive and results-driven environment for staff and members. Your leadership skills, business acumen, and passion for fitness will contribute to the continued success of our boutique gym.

Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 Plus Bonuses

Being bilingual is a big plus.
