Founded in 1988, the Lavender Youth Recreation & Information Center (LYRIC) is a nationally recognized leader in youth-led social change. We partner with over 2,000 LGBTQQ+ youth annually to build community, nurture healing, and foster long-term stability through education, career development, wellness, and leadership programs.
LYRICs vision is rooted in equity, liberation, and joy, especially for Black, Brown, Trans, Nonbinary, Disabled, and System-impacted youth navigating structural barriers. With a $6M annual budget and a multigenerational, multicultural staff of 20+, LYRIC continues to create affirming spaces that center youth voice, safety, and power.
About This Role
Were hiring aCareer and Independent Living Program Coordinatorto support LYRICs internship, mentorship, and workforce development programs for LGBTQQ+ youth ages 1824.
This role plays a key part in preparing youth not just for jobsbut for long-term independence, stability, and success. As Program Coordinator, youll co-design and lead meaningful programs that build critical life and career skills through paid internships, mentorship, drop-in programs, and youth-led projects.
You'll also help develop and maintaincareer pipelinesfor youth by cultivating relationships withnonprofits, companies, and city job training programsthat provide real-world placement opportunities. Your work will directly connect youth to affirming spaces where they can grow, earn, and lead.
What Youll Do
Career Development & Independent Living Programming
- Lead internship cohorts, mentorship programs, and drop-in youth-led programming.
- Create and facilitate workshops on job readiness, leadership, financial literacy, and life skills.
- Support youth in identifying personal goals and completing culminating projects.
- Coordinate intern onboarding, outreach, recruitment, and scheduling.
Career Pathways & Placement Partnerships
- Cultivate and maintainjob training partnershipswith nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and private companies.
- Identify and connect youth toreal-world job placementsthat align with their interests and skills.
- Collaborate with city-based programs and workforce initiatives to expand access to meaningful employment opportunities for youth.
Program Administration & Support
- Track program data, youth milestones, and timesheets in LYRICs systems.
- Support budget management and materials purchasing.
- Refer youth to wraparound resources such as housing, mental health, or educational support.
Drop-In & Community Engagement
- Support LYRICs youth-led drop-in space by cultivating a welcoming, affirming, and creative environment.
- Co-create artistic and healing-centered community offerings alongside youth.
Team & Organizational Collaboration
- Work across departments to support LYRICs holistic youth engagement model.
- Participate in team meetings, retreats, and organizational planning.
- Be responsive and adaptive to evolving program and youth needs.
This is a full-time, in-person role based at LYRICs Purple House in San Francisco. This is not a remote or work-from-home position. Occasional evenings and weekends are required.
Who You Are
A passionate youth worker with 2+ years of experience in education, workforce development, case management, or similar roles.
A facilitator and organizer with experience delivering career and life-skills programming to youth.
A connector with the ability to build partnerships that expand opportunities for young peopleespecially in employment and job training.
Familiar with frameworks such as harm reduction, trauma-informed care, positive youth development, and youth-adult partnership.
Experienced working with trans youth, youth of color, and system-impacted youth.
Tech-savvy and organized, comfortable with Google Workspace, Zoom, and data tracking tools.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate:$30.58/hour (non-negotiable under LYRICs equity-based compensation model)
Union Status:This is a union-represented position (OPEIU Local 29)
