It operates public awareness programs to highlight the ongoing needs of America’s veterans and provides outreach services that connect individuals with food, clothing, transportation, employment, and other essential resources. Staffed by veterans from multiple eras and supported by licensed volunteer counselors, the organization has assisted more than 550,000 veterans with medical treatment, substance abuse or PTSD counseling, VA benefits advocacy, housing, employment training, legal aid, and suicide intervention. Its founder, Shad Meshad, is recognized as a leading expert in treating PTSD and has been trusted by the U.S. government to train crisis counselors, including those at Ground Zero after September 11, 2001. The organization continues to evolve, committed to developing effective ways to support those who have served and their families, and is open to all who seek emotional support and assistance.
