Concrete Operations Manager / General Superintendent

Position Summary

The Concrete Operations Manager / General Superintendent is responsible for the overall planning, execution, and successful delivery of all concrete construction operations. This management-level field leadership position oversees project superintendents, field personnel, project managers equipment, scheduling, quality control, and safety while ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of workmanship.

This role serves as the bridge between executive management, project management, estimating, and field operations to maximize productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities

Operations Leadership

  • Lead all field operations for commercial and industrial concrete construction projects.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring schedules, manpower, equipment, and materials are properly coordinated.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies that improve productivity and profitability.
  • Ensure consistent execution of company standards across all job sites.
  • Collaborate with executives to establish annual operational goals and performance metrics.

Field Management

  • Supervise, General Superintendents, Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews.
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits to monitor production, quality, safety, and progress.
  • Assist field leadership in solving complex construction challenges.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels for all active projects.
  • Identify future field leaders and develop succession plans.

Project Execution

  • Participate in project kickoff meetings with project managers and estimators.
  • Review project schedules and develop manpower loading plans.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Identify potential schedule impacts and proactively implement recovery plans.
  • Ensure projects meet contract requirements and customer expectations.

Safety Leadership

  • Promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and client-specific safety requirements.
  • Participate in safety meetings and jobsite inspections.
  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and safety incidents.
  • Implement corrective actions and continuous safety improvements.

Quality Control

  • Ensure all work meets company quality standards and project specifications.
  • Monitor concrete placement, finishing, curing, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Review punch lists and oversee completion of corrective work.
  • Minimize rework through proactive field supervision.

Financial Management

  • Monitor labor productivity and equipment utilization.
  • Review labor reports and production metrics.
  • Assist project managers in identifying cost overruns and implementing corrective actions.
  • Support efforts to maximize project profitability.
  • Participate in operational budgeting and forecasting.

Equipment & Resource Management

  • Coordinate equipment scheduling among projects.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and utilization of company equipment.
  • Assist in long-term equipment planning and capital purchases.
  • Monitor material usage and reduce waste.

Client Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, general contractors, architects, and inspectors.
  • Represent the company professionally during project meetings.
  • Resolve field issues quickly while maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Support business development through exceptional project execution.

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of commercial concrete construction experience
  • Bilingual a Plus
  • 5+ years in a superintendent or operations leadership role
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • Structural concrete
    • Tilt-up construction
    • Foundations
    • Slabs on grade
    • Parking structures
    • Site concrete
    • Reinforcing steel
    • Formwork systems
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field (preferred but not required)
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar construction software
