We’re seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Hotel Engineer (General Maintenance) to join our service team at Petit Ermitage, hotel known for its warmth, charm, and elevated guest experience.
The Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel's physical facilities, equipment, and guest rooms to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment for guests and team members. This position performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and general upkeep of building systems while responding promptly to maintenance requests in accordance with hotel standards.
The Engineer works throughout the property, including guest rooms, public spaces, kitchen, rooftop, mechanical rooms, and exterior areas. The position requires adherence to all safety procedures while maintaining the highest standards of property appearance and operational reliability.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on hotel equipment, guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and departments.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and general building systems.
- Repair and maintain lighting, doors, locks, windows, furniture, fixtures, flooring, drywall, ceilings, and paint.
- Perform routine inspections of guest rooms, mechanical equipment, and public spaces to identify maintenance needs.
- Maintain swimming pool and water feature equipment, when applicable.
- Assist with emergency repairs and respond to facility-related emergencies, including after-hours situations as assigned.
- Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner using the hotel's maintenance management system.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, and equipment servicing.
- Monitor equipment performance and notify management of repairs requiring outside vendors or replacement.
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations, local building codes, fire and life safety standards, and company policies.
- Properly use, maintain, and store tools, equipment, and chemicals.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, mechanical rooms, and storage spaces.
- Assist with room renovations, special projects, furniture installations, and event setups as needed.
- Support energy conservation initiatives and recommend improvements to building efficiency.
- Work collaboratively with Housekeeping, Front Office, Security, Food & Beverage, and other departments to minimize operational disruptions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum of 2 years of general maintenance or engineering experience, preferably in a hotel, resort, healthcare, or commercial facility.
- High school diploma, technical school certification, or vocational training in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or building maintenance preferred.
- Basic knowledge of:
- HVAC systems
- Plumbing
- Electrical systems
- Carpentry
- Drywall and painting
- Mechanical equipment
- Building maintenance practices
- Ability to safely operate power tools, hand tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple work orders in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer skills to complete work orders and maintenance documentation.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Team-oriented mindset and willingness to support operations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, push, pull, stand, walk, and talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, or telephone.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Standing or walking during entire 8-hour or longer shifts.
- Ability to read maintenance manuals, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
