Immediate opening for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist II in Vista, CA who possesses:

  • Current and valid California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or Clinical Chemistry Scientist license
  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • 3+ years of laboratory experience in high complexity testing
  • 2+ years of IFA experience and experience with HEp-2 I analysis

FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist II to support high-complexity testing and analysis of patient samples within Flow and Immunochemistry departments. This role is responsible for performing and reviewing laboratory testing, quality control, quality assurance, preventive maintenance, proficiency testing, IFA analysis, Flow Cytometry analysis, ELISA data review, and related laboratory activities in accordance with approved procedures and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a current California CLS or CCS license, strong high-complexity testing experience, IFA analysis experience, and the ability to work accurately in a busy clinical laboratory environment.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Demonstrating proficiency, competency, and understanding of fundamental clinical laboratory procedures
  • Reviewing test data, quality control, quality assurance, preventive maintenance, proficiency testing, and other operational activities related to laboratory testing procedures
  • Conducting quality laboratory testing, including analysis, review, and reporting of Flow and Immunochemistry results
  • Performing quality control procedures and interpreting clinical values, including critical values and delta checks
  • Determining when test results are reportable, including review of standard curves, controls, reagents, and troubleshooting
  • Documenting quality control results, out-of-range findings, and corrective actions appropriately
  • Operating assigned laboratory equipment, including Flow Cytometer, Quantalyzer, NOVAView, TECAN-EVO 100, HELMER Ultra-Cell Washer, BIO-TEK ELX50 automated strip washer, Eppendorf centrifuge, and other equipment as required
  • Performing and documenting routine daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance and calibration of laboratory instrumentation
  • Creating testing batches in the Laboratory Information System prior to testing
  • Identifying and resolving pending specimen results in the Laboratory Information System
  • Assisting with investigation and resolution of complaints, problems, discrepancies, critical values, unusual laboratory situations, analytical issues, and system performance concerns
  • Notifying laboratory management of issues as appropriate
  • Troubleshooting issues involving the Laboratory Information System, equipment, instruments, and assay performance
  • Following troubleshooting procedures to correct instrument or equipment deficiencies
  • Collaborating with equipment vendors to initiate maintenance or repairs as needed
  • Monitoring, managing, and maintaining sample storage, reagents, and supply inventory for the department
  • Performing IFA analysis, Flow Cytometry analysis, and ELISA data review
  • Performing basic mathematical calculations required for reagent preparation
  • Participating in the Quality Assurance program, including identifying, recording, and correcting nonconformances through Corrective or Preventive Action Requests
  • Overseeing, reviewing, and verifying the work of other laboratory personnel as assigned
  • Providing training, guidance, and technical information to Clinical Laboratory Scientists, laboratory technicians, assistants, and support staff
  • Collaborating with Research, the Head of Immunology, and Project Coordinator on assay validation and improvement activities
  • Participating in internal and external audits as required
  • Observing all laboratory, company, and regulatory agency policies and procedures
  • Maintaining department safety, including chemical and biological safety, under established safety, infection control, and procedural protocols
  • Following safety procedures and using all required safety devices and personal protective equipment
  • Working in a professional, cooperative, and courteous manner
  • Communicating effectively with internal personnel
  • Assisting with interviewing and training employees as needed
  • Performing other duties as assigned

The selected candidate will also possess:

  • Current and valid California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or Clinical Chemistry Scientist license required
  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution required
  • Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology may be considered with current CLS license
  • 3+ years of laboratory experience in high complexity testing required
  • 2+ years of IFA experience required
  • Experience with HEp-2 I analysis required
  • Experience performing Flow Cytometry analysis and ELISA data review preferred
  • Knowledge of accepted clinical laboratory practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of handling potentially infectious materials
  • Familiarity with California law relating to the practice of medical technology
  • Knowledge of computer skills, quality control, and instrument maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment, laboratory procedures, and quality control
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform detailed tasks thoroughly and completely
  • Ability to follow complicated instructions with accuracy
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate satisfactorily in English in person and by telephone
  • Ability to work assigned schedule and overtime hours as needed
  • Ability to work onsite in Vista, CA
  • Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to regularly sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear throughout the workday
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
  • Ability to use close vision, adjust focus, and view computer monitors for extended periods
  • Ability to work in a standard laboratory environment
  • Ability to interact with laboratory equipment, samples, supplies, and laboratory personnel while following appropriate safety precautions
  • Ability to work in an environment with moderate noise levels
  • Ability to follow chemical and biological safety procedures
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and use required safety devices according to protocol
  • Ability to perform detailed laboratory testing, documentation, quality review, and sample handling tasks accurately and safely

Salary Range: $57 to $72/hour + 10% annual bonus potential
