Assistant Project Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking a proactive Assistant Project Manager to support delivery of commercial construction projects with a focus on retail build-outs (including Big Box stores, QSR, and fitness assets). The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with Project Managers and Project Engineers to help deliver projects on time, on budget and to the client's quality and safety standards. This role requires strong coordination, communication and basic estimating/administration skills and familiarity with site operations and construction documentation.

Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Manager in planning, scheduling and execution of retail construction projects, ensuring milestones are met and deliverables are complete.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors and on-site crews; track progress and resolve day-to-day site issues to minimize delays.
- Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders and meeting minutes; follow through to resolution and maintain accurate logs.
- Assist with cost control and budgeting tasks: gather quotes, track subcontractor invoices, monitor change order status and update cost reports.
- Use construction management tools (e.g., Procore) to maintain project records, drawings, schedules and communication.
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to verify quality of work and adherence to contract documents and specifications.
- Support safety program implementation on site and enforce site-specific safety protocols; report and track incidents and corrective actions.
- Prepare and distribute weekly progress reports, meeting agendas and closeout documentation; assist in punch lists and project turnover activities.
- Collaborate with design teams, owners and tenants to clarify scope, coordinate fit-outs and manage expectations during construction.
- Assist with procurement and material tracking to ensure timely delivery and minimize rework or delays.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an Assistant Project Manager on commercial construction projects, with demonstrable work on retail build-outs.
- Familiarity with construction documentation and procedures including RFIs, submittals, change orders and project closeout processes.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, track details and meet deadlines.
- Proficient with standard office software (MS Office) and experience using construction management platforms (Procore preferred).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to coordinate across teams including subcontractors, clients and design professionals.
- Comfortable with site visits, field measurements and basic construction oversight; ability to read drawings and specifications.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to multiple project sites as required.
- Nice-to-have: prior experience as a Project Engineer, experience with RFIs and QSR (quick-service restaurant) build-outs, fitness facility projects, Big Box stores, OSHA 30 certification and hands-on Procore administration experience.
