Position Title: Retail Lead

Reports To: Retail Manager

Department: Retail

Status: Non-Exempt


I. SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Museum Store Manager, the Retail Lead is responsible for obtaining the store’s sales goals, monitoring and processing merchandise, maintaining store presentation as well as training and leading staff in retail operations. This includes assisting staff in register transactions, overrides, voids, sales and returns as well as identifying and resolving common register issues and mistakes. The Retail lead will also assist in retail location breaks as needed, creating a positive customer experience and providing excellent customer service. During Garden of Lights, Glowing Wild and satellite events the retail lead will extend these duties to encompass the events Retail locations.


II. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

· Maintain superior customer service and business focus with the goal of successful product sales.

· Accurately process sales and returns through the point-of-sale system, manage a cash drawer, count and reconcile money.

· Train and support staff on retail POS operations for the Museum Store, Nursery Shop, Paul Bunyan Store, Garden of Lights and Glowing Wild.

· Maintain merchandise display appearance and fullness for all retail locations.

· Maintain The Branch House and Sheraton Sundries merchandise displays stock, cleanliness and appearance. (With direction and assistance from the Retail Manager.)

· Assist Retail Manager in product monitoring to maintain a positive appearance, normal inventory levels and sufficient product for daily sales for all retail locations.

· Point-person for Retail vendors. Monitor product deliveries and process merchandise including checking in orders, noting and communicating invoice discrepancies, maintaining standard pricing for product, tagging and putting away product. Communicate vendor specific training and information to staff. (With direction and assistance from the Retail Manager)

· Enter Retail receivables into Counterpoint and maintain orderly filing systems. (With direction and assistance of Retail Manager.)

· Assist in monitoring Inventory loss prevention and damages including performing sport audits, accurately recording damaged or stolen merchandise and identifying high loss potential areas. Support and train staff in loss prevention.

· Assist in satellite event locations setup, breakdown and operations including but not limited to running a register, providing support and stocking and maintaining appearance of retail locations.

· Assist in annual inventory counts and procedures for all retail locations.

· Taking and responding to phone calls or messages to the Retail Phone. (With direction and assistance from the Retail Manager)

· Maintain effective communication with Department Supervisors, the Guest Services Staff as well as all other departments including staff at Branch House and Sheraton Hotel.

· Act as primary point of contact for retail needs in the absence of the Retail Manager.

· Assist Guest Services locations as needed and gain basic knowledge of ticketing POS. Be knowledgeable about current and upcoming programs, events and exhibitions throughout the Turtle Bay Campus.

· Work in a safe manner at all times. Know and understand the Work Safety Rules for the Company.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

I. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Minimum of two (2) years customer support/service experience.

· Minimum requirement of possessing a high school diploma or equivalent.

· Experience working with point-of-sale cash register system or comfortable working in computer environment desirable.


II. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Able to observe, recognize, and take action to correct potentially hazardous situations whether via actions by guests or problems with equipment or displays.
  • Ability to skillfully organize and manage details, problem solve and oversee diverse priorities and/or multiple projects simultaneously and within deadlines independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal skills to include tact, creativity and calm demeanor and able to greet and communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, vendors, donors, potential customers, community contacts, and guests including school-age children, young adults and teachers.
  • Knowledge of MS Office software with sufficient skills to develop appropriate tools to create and track orders, tasks, schedules, etc.
  • Must be able to work flexible days and hours, including evenings, weekends, and extended days, as needed, 32-40 hours per week.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license or be able to acquire within ten (10) days. Provide a clean DMV report.
