Job Description

Job DescriptionSenior Attorney/Junior Partner - General Liability

Senior Attorney/Junior Partner

Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Attorney/Junior Partner to join our general liability defense practice. This role combines hands-on litigation and trial work with partnership-track responsibilities: leading complex liability matters, supervising associates, managing client relationships (including insurer clients), and contributing to business development and firm leadership. The ideal candidate will have substantial defense litigation experience, a Juris Doctorate, and a proven record of delivering results in general liability matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a docket of general liability and related defense litigation matters from intake through resolution, including trials, mediations, and appeal preparation.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and other substantive litigation documents with clear, persuasive legal writing.
  • Lead case strategy and litigation planning, including fact investigation, expert engagement, and settlement analyses.
  • Try cases and argue motions in state and federal courts, and represent clients at mediations and arbitrations.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop associates, junior attorneys, and paralegals; provide constructive feedback and delegation on case work.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, including insurer and corporate clients; provide timely, practical legal advice and manage client expectations.
  • Drive business development efforts: identify opportunities, network, participate in industry events, and contribute to proposals and pitches to grow the practice.
  • Coordinate case budgets, billing, e-billing compliance, and matter management to meet firm and client requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with professional and ethical rules, maintain accurate case files, and participate in firm management and decision-making as a junior partner.
  • Stay current on developments in liability law and defense litigation strategies; contribute to internal trainings and CLE programs.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active admission to the state bar (state-specific admission required).
  • 7+ years of civil defense litigation experience with an emphasis on general liability and tort matters; demonstrated trial experience preferred.
  • Substantive experience in Defense litigation, including substantive motion practice, discovery management, and courtroom advocacy.
  • Proven track record handling Liability matters for insurer or corporate clients, with the ability to manage complex, high-exposure cases.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and written advocacy skills; ability to produce clear, persuasive briefs and client communications.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship ability, and experience supervising junior attorneys and support staff.
  • Business development aptitude: client-facing skills, networking ability, and willingness to participate in firm growth and origination activities.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, sound judgment, and the ability to develop practical, cost-effective strategies for clients.
  • Familiarity with e-billing systems, case management software, and standard litigation support tools.
  • Professional integrity, strong time management skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively under pressure.
