Sr. Accounting Manager for a demolition contractor located in Santa Ana, CA.
Direct Hire opportunity. Paying $85-110k/yr, depending on experience. Hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Company offers benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, and a 401K plan. 100% onsite (note remote or hybrid).
Summary:
We are looking for a results-driven, high-accountability Senior Accounting Manager to serve as a financial backbone of our construction operations. This person will be a key leadership driver, working side by side with operations and ownership to ensure the company runs with financial discipline, transparency, and precision. Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Own the full cycle accounting function: AP, AR, payroll, job costing, and general ledger.
- Prepare and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Develop and maintain cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Lead budget development and variance analysis across all projects and departments.
Accountability & Cross-Functional Driving
- Hold managers accountable to budget and financial KPIs.
- Conduct regular job cost reviews with project teams and escalate variances proactively.
- Establish and enforce financial policies, procedures, and internal controls across the company.
- Partner with operations to drive profitability and efficiency on every project.
- Be a driver in leadership meetings, not just a reporter, but a challenger and a problem-solver.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, bonding requirements, and construction- specific accounting standards.
- Manage annual audit/review process with external CPAs.
- Oversee lien waivers, contract compliance, and subcontractor financial documentation.
- Maintain proper insurance, licensing, and surety bond documentation.
Team & Systems Management
- Lead and develop the accounting team.
- Optimize and manage accounting systems (I.e. QuickBooks).
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and reporting infrastructure.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- 5-10+ years of accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in construction the industry.
- Deep knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and AIA billing.
- Demonstrated ability to hold others accountable and influence without authority.
- Strong communicator who can translate financials for non-finance audiences.
- Proven track record of driving process improvement and organizational change.
- Proficiency in construction accounting software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Experience with GC or subcontractor operations.
- Familiarity with certified payroll / prevailing wage compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
