Job Description
This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on a growing food manufacturing business that is investing in stronger financial operations and professionalizing its accounting function. Rather than inheriting a mature accounting department, you'll help build one.
Our client has experienced significant growth over the past several years and is now looking for a Controller/Accounting Manager who enjoys bringing order to complexity. If you're someone who likes improving processes, creating accurate financial reporting, and partnering with leadership to make better business decisions, this role offers meaningful ownership and visibility from day one.
The company is privately owned, family-led, and continues to grow within the food manufacturing and distribution industry. Leadership values professionals who are willing to roll up their sleeves, ask questions, influence others, and help build better systems—not simply maintain existing ones.
The organization is in an exciting stage of growth where accounting is becoming a strategic business function. Leadership is committed to investing in stronger processes, improving visibility into financial performance, and giving this individual the opportunity to shape how accounting supports the business moving forward.
You'll work directly with ownership and operations while helping establish better financial discipline across departments. Your recommendations will influence how the company manages cash, classifies expenses, improves reporting, and prepares for future growth.
In this role, you will:
- Own the month-end close process and improve the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
- Manage the general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, and chart of accounts maintenance.
- Improve expense classification and ensure transactions are recorded accurately across departments.
- Build stronger accounting processes, documentation standards, and internal controls within QuickBooks Online.
- Develop cash flow reporting and forecasting to support operational and vendor payment decisions.
- Work cross-functionally with purchasing, operations, and warehouse teams to obtain missing documentation and improve accounting workflows.
- Help leadership create greater financial visibility through reporting, process improvements, and operational analysis.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Progressive accounting experience with responsibility for general ledger, financial reporting, and month-end close.
- Experience working within manufacturing, food manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-intensive environments.
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles and general ledger coding.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar ERP/accounting software.
- Intermediate Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, lookup functions, IF formulas, and data analysis.
- Comfortable working in an onsite, hands-on environment.
If you're an accounting professional who enjoys improving processes, creating financial clarity, and helping a growing business reach its next stage, we'd welcome a confidential conversation.
