Position: Controls Engineer I (Entry-Level)
Location: Ontario, CA
Position Summary:
The Controls Engineer I will be responsible for supporting the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of control systems for manufacturing and industrial processes. You will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to assist in automation projects, troubleshoot control systems, and ensure optimal equipment performance.
We are seeking a technically strong entry-level engineer who has basic programming knowledge and is comfortable writing code. While prior controls experience is beneficial, we can train the right candidate on controls-specific programming and industrial automation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and development of control systems using PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA platforms
- Support programming, testing, and debugging of automation systems
- Collaborate with senior engineers to implement control system solutions for new and existing equipment
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to minimize downtime
- Participate in system commissioning, startup, and validation activities
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system efficiency, reliability, and safety
- Work with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and production staff
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Basic programming experience and the ability to write, understand, and troubleshoot code
- Experience gained through coursework, projects, internships, co-ops, or professional experience is acceptable
- Ability and willingness to learn PLC programming and industrial automation technologies
- Familiarity with PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, or industrial automation concepts is a plus
- Understanding of electrical systems, control theory, and engineering fundamentals
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Exposure to manufacturing, robotics, motion control, machine vision, or industrial communication protocols is preferred
