Lead Legal Assistant (WC) Job Description

Under general direction, Lead Legal Assistant will perform a full range of complex and responsible secretarial and legal work utilizing terminology, procedures, and documents. Coordinate preparations of legal documents and correspondence filing pleading with the Workers Compensation Appeals Board.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Familiarity with law, legal procedures and protocols, and Workers Compensation court system.
  • Receive, transcribe, and track legal dictation of status reports, conference summaries, settlement disbursements reports, including sub out and liens.
  • Proofread and correct prepared materials for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, format, syntax, and content.
  • Compose routine letters and memoranda using knowledge of work area instructions and guidelines.
  • Maintain files, logs, and other information in connection with the work under the control of assigned attorney.
  • Prepare Pre-Trial Conference Statements, settlement documents and trial exhibits in advance of hearings and depositions as applicable.
  • Operate standard office equipment such as copy machines and scanners.
  • Receive and place telephone calls and emails, manage volume.
  • Jet filing, DORs pleadings or change of address.
  • Review daily mail, delegate tasks with team.
  • Assists with establishing and accomplishing department goals: overseeing management of any of teams and their tasks.
  • Ability to train and supervise other team members in the practices and skills required to be effective at their position.
  • Follow up and track tasks & settlement fess.
  • Maintain effective relations to address the problems of industrially injured persons.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Working in a collaborative team environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint or Merus Case.
  • Skilled typing ability (minimum 75WPM) as well as strong writing, proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills.
