About the Role
Block LLP is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Law Clerk to join our growing Habitability Department.
In this role, you will work closely with our attorneys on plaintiff-side habitability and tenant-rights litigation matters involving unsafe housing conditions, landlord negligence, tenant harassment, wrongful eviction, and other housing-related disputes. You will assist with legal research, drafting, discovery, case preparation, and litigation support while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced plaintiff law firm.
This is an excellent opportunity for a current law student, recent law school graduate, or individual awaiting bar results who is interested in developing litigation experience and making a meaningful impact by advocating for tenants and families.

What You'll Do
- Conduct legal research related to California habitability, landlord-tenant, and civil litigation matters
- Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, correspondence, and other legal documents
- Assist attorneys with discovery, including drafting discovery requests and responses
- Review, organize, and summarize medical records, inspection reports, repair records, photographs, leases, and other case documents
- Assist with document review and document production
- Prepare case summaries, chronologies, and litigation binders
- Assist with trial preparation, mediation preparation, and hearing materials
- Coordinate with clients, experts, inspectors, contractors, medical providers, and opposing counsel as directed
- Maintain organized electronic and physical case files
- Update the firm's case management system with case activity and notes
- Assist attorneys with additional litigation and legal support tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school, a recent law school graduate, or awaiting California Bar results
- Strong legal research and legal writing skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and staff
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Professional, dependable, and eager to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in plaintiff-side litigation, habitability, landlord-tenant, or housing law
- Previous experience in a law firm, legal clinic, externship, or internship
- Familiarity with California civil litigation procedures
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Experience using legal research platforms such as Westlaw or LexisNexis
- Experience with legal case management software is a plus
