Field Service Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Field Service Engineer to install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial automation and control systems on customer sites. The role focuses on ensuring reliable operation of PLC-based equipment, delivering timely service and support, and building strong customer relationships. The ideal candidate is technically skilled, comfortable working in the field, and experienced in service delivery for industrial systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to service calls and perform on-site installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of PLC-based control systems and related equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software faults in PLCs, HMIs, drives, and field devices, applying systematic fault-finding techniques to restore operation quickly.
- Perform system upgrades, firmware updates, and preventive maintenance to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
- Collaborate with customers, project managers, and engineering teams to provide technical support, recommendations, and clear documentation of work performed.
- Maintain accurate service reports, parts usage records, and update service management systems promptly.
- Provide training and technical guidance to customer operators and maintenance staff to ensure safe, efficient operation of equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and site-specific rules while working in diverse field environments.
- Support spare parts inventory management and recommend parts or design changes to improve serviceability.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or equivalent technical qualification (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience as a Field Service Engineer or Service Technician supporting PLC-based industrial control systems.
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming, troubleshooting, and communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
- Hands-on experience with field instrumentation, sensors, drives, HMIs, and control panels.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Excellent problem-solving and customer-facing skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work at customer sites; valid drivers license.
- Ability to work independently with strong time-management skills and attention to detail.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., PLC vendor certifications, industrial electrical or safety certifications) and experience with field service tools preferred.
