Chief Financial Officer (CFO) / Partner

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Partner to join a growing custom home construction firm. This role combines strategic financial leadership with operational partnership responsibilities: drive financial planning, capital sourcing and loan negotiation, implement strong job costing and margin controls, and help scale the business. The CFO/Partner will work closely with the President/GM and ownership to build financial systems, manage risk, and enable profitable growth across custom residential projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the companys financial strategy and long-term planning in partnership with the President/GM and ownership.
  • Manage all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, job costing, and margin analysis specific to custom home construction.
  • Lead capital raising activities: structure and negotiate construction loans, lines of credit and other financing; maintain strong banking relationships and investor communications.
  • Oversee accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, tax compliance and external audits; ensure timely and accurate financial statements and KPIs for leadership and partners.
  • Design and enforce financial controls, processes and systems to improve accuracy, scalability and compliance across projects and corporate functions.
  • Provide operational leadership and financial guidance to project managers and business units to optimize pricing, procurement, subcontractor management and schedule-to-cost performance.
  • Implement and maintain construction-specific financial systems and tools (job costing, WIP reporting, forecasting) and drive adoption of ERP/PM software.
  • Partner on strategic initiatives: M&A, new market expansion, pricing strategies, and productivity improvement programs to support growth objectives.
  • Identify, evaluate and mitigate financial and contractual risks, including insurance, bonding, lien and warranty exposures.
  • Coach, hire and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team; foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field; CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience with at least 5 years in a CFO or senior finance role; demonstrable experience in construction and custom home building preferred.
  • Proven track record as a President, GM or senior operator in growing companies, with hands-on understanding of operations, estimating and project delivery.
  • Deep experience securing and negotiating construction loans, lines of credit and other capital solutions with banks and private lenders.
  • Strong command of job costing, WIP reporting, change order management and margin analysis for custom residential projects.
  • Experience implementing and using construction ERP/PM and accounting systems (examples: Sage, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel/financial modeling skills.
  • Excellent communication and partnership skills; comfortable presenting to owners, banks, boards and outside stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building and scaling finance teams and processes in a growing organization; equity/partner mindset preferred.
  • High integrity, attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions under pressure.
  • Willingness to visit job sites and travel as needed; ability to work in a hands-on, entrepreneurial environment.
