About the Role
Join a growing aerospace and defense manufacturing organization developing mission-critical technologies for space and defense applications. This opportunity is ideal for a Manufacturing Engineer who enjoys improving manufacturing processes, leading production initiatives, and collaborating across engineering and operations teams to bring innovative products from development into production.
In this role, you'll serve as the technical lead for manufacturing processes, supporting new product introductions, production improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives. You'll work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain to optimize manufacturing operations, improve product quality, and ensure successful project execution throughout the production lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead manufacturing process development and support production from new product introduction through full-rate manufacturing
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, routings, process specifications, tooling documentation, and manufacturing plans
- Investigate manufacturing issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain teams to ensure new products are manufacturable and production-ready
- Serve as the technical liaison for manufacturing process development, validation, implementation, and customer support
- Develop manufacturing cell layouts, tooling concepts, and equipment plans to improve productivity and efficiency
- Lead Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, including Kaizen events, standard work development, process optimization, and waste reduction
- Support PFMEA, Process Hazard Assessments (PHA), Production Preparation Process (3P), and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities
- Identify and manage capital equipment improvement projects, including automation and manufacturing equipment upgrades
- Track manufacturing project milestones and support successful execution of production programs
- Provide daily manufacturing floor support while partnering with operators, supervisors, and quality personnel to resolve production challenges
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- 2+ years of manufacturing engineering experience within aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting manufacturing process development, product launches, and production improvement initiatives
- Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute manufacturing projects
- Experience performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions using structured problem-solving methodologies
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, engineering drawings, and GD&T
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or AS9100/ISO 9001 regulated manufacturing environments
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles and mechanical assembly processes
- Knowledge of PFMEA, 3P, TPM, Process Hazard Assessments, and manufacturing validation activities
- Experience leading capital equipment projects, automation initiatives, or manufacturing cell design
- Strong shop floor presence with the ability to provide hands-on technical support and drive continuous process improvements
