PublishedPublished: 6/14/2022

Job Description

Job Description

*Hybrid role

What we're looking for:

We need an experienced attorney with 3-7 years of litigation and/or transactional experience who can provide high-quality legal counsel to homeowner associations throughout California. You should be comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced environment with a 24-hour client response commitment, and have a track record of excellent legal writing and client service. Bonus points if you have direct experience with community association law, the Davis-Stirling Act, CCRs, creditor-side bankruptcy, or construction defect litigation.

What you'll do:

  • Provide full-service legal counsel to condominium, townhouse, stock cooperative, and planned development HOA boards of directors and their community managers
  • Handle litigation matters including real estate disputes, construction defect cases, creditor-side bankruptcy, and judgment collections
  • Draft and review transactional documents including corporate governance opinions, board resolutions, articles of incorporation, by-laws, and real estate documents
  • Advise clients on Davis-Stirling Act compliance, CCR interpretation, and community association governance issues
  • Respond to client inquiries within 24 hours and manage your own caseload independently
  • Contribute to firm marketing efforts, including writing articles for publication and presenting at industry events
  • Work closely with the founding partners and support staff to deliver outstanding results for HOA clients

Why YOU should join:

  • Work for California's undisputed #1 HOA law firm — Our Client has dominated this niche since 1987. You won't find a more respected name in community association law anywhere in the state.
  • Partnership track available — For the right candidate who contributes and grows with the firm, there's a real path to equity partnership. This isn't a dead-end associate role.
  • Learn from the absolute best — The founding partners (David and Sandra) have 35+ years of expertise, are members of the College of Community Association Lawyers, and actively teach in the industry. You'll get mentorship from true subject-matter experts.
  • Intellectually stimulating work — HOA law touches nearly every body of law (real estate, corporate governance, bankruptcy, construction defect, Davis-Stirling Act, CC&Rs). It's never boring and constantly challenges you to think across disciplines.
  • Healthy, non-political culture — No office drama. No politics. Just good work and good people. The firm's controller has been there 25 years — that kind of tenure speaks volumes about the environment.
  • Strong support system — You'll have Aram (25-year controller) as a dedicated resource to help you navigate anything from workload questions to partner communication. He's empowered to solve problems and keep things running smoothly.
  • Competitive comp with discretionary bonus upside — Base ranges from $145K–$200K depending on role/experience. Bonuses reward attorneys who exceed their billable targets — the firm shares the upside when you outperform.
  • Long-term career home — People build lives here. Attorneys get married, have kids, buy houses, and grow their careers over many years at this firm.
