Position: Payroll Specialist
Location: Sonoma County
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Payroll Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing on a weekly basis, maintaining payroll records, and supporting employees with payroll-related inquiries. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and committed to confidentiality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly/weekly payroll for all employees with accuracy and timeliness
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and compensation changes
  • Review timecards, attendance, and leave records to confirm compliance with company policies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Prepare payroll reports for accounting, auditing, and management
  • Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, taxes, and direct deposit
  • Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve errors
  • Coordinate with HR and Finance teams on benefits, deductions, and reporting
  • Support year-end payroll functions, including W2 and 1099 preparation

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience (multi-state experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, taxes, and regulations
  • Experience with payroll software such as ADP, Paylocity, Paychex, or similar
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and basic accounting principles
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality
  • Strong communication and problemsolving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification)
  • Experience in [industry—optional]
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems

Compensation:

  • Base salary of $70-80K
