Job Description

Senior Electronics Test & Harness Technician

Help Build the Future of Electric Vehicles

CDM Technology is seeking an experienced Senior Electronics Test & Harness Technician to join the development team of one of Southern California's most innovative electric vehicle manufacturers.

We're looking for a highly capable, hands-on technician who can read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness drawings quickly and confidently—not someone who has simply had exposure to them.

IMPORTANT: The ability to read and interpret electrical drawings is a critical requirement for this position. During the interview, candidates will be handed electrical drawings/schematics they have not seen before and asked to walk through them in real time—identifying wires, colors, connectors, components, and explaining how they interpret and trace the system.

Candidates should be comfortable doing this without extensive preparation or assistance.

This is not a repetitive production or assembly role. You'll work on evolving circuit boards, wiring harnesses, embedded systems, and prototype vehicle electronics where priorities and technical challenges can change from day to day.

You don't need to be an electrical engineer—but you do need to be extremely comfortable working from engineering documentation, learning unfamiliar systems quickly, and clearly explaining what you're seeing.

What You'll Do

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, pinouts, and engineering documentation.
  • Trace circuits through wiring diagrams and physical harnesses, identifying wires, colors, connectors, pins, components, and potential failure points.
  • Troubleshoot wiring harnesses for opens, shorts, incorrect connections, intermittent faults, and other electrical issues.
  • Set up and power new circuit boards using lab power supplies, battery simulators, and electronic loads.
  • Build, wire, and maintain test benches, breakout boards, adapters, harnesses, and custom test fixtures.
  • Execute hardware validation testing and clearly document results.
  • Troubleshoot PCB assemblies, embedded electronics, wiring harnesses, and vehicle electrical systems.
  • Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, CAN analyzers, logic analyzers, and other laboratory equipment to diagnose issues.
  • Partner directly with electrical and firmware engineers to isolate root causes and verify hardware fixes.
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation of testing, failures, corrective actions, and retesting.
  • Adapt quickly as designs, priorities, and vehicle systems evolve.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience testing or troubleshooting electronic assemblies, wiring harnesses, PCBs, embedded hardware, vehicle electronics, or similar systems.
  • Strong ability to independently read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings is required.
  • Experience tracing electrical circuits from a schematic or drawing through a physical wiring harness.
  • Strong understanding of wires, connectors, pinouts, electrical components, and circuit operation.
  • Proven troubleshooting and diagnostic ability—you should be comfortable figuring out problems rather than simply following assembly instructions.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, lab power supplies, CAN tools, and similar electronic test equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting connectors, opens, shorts, intermittent faults, and other harness-related issues.
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly and work independently without extensive repetition or hand-holding.
  • Excellent written documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Automotive, EV, aerospace, robotics, defense, or embedded electronics.
  • Complex automotive, aerospace, or industrial wiring harnesses.
  • CAN, UART, I2C, and SPI communication protocols.
  • Python or scripting experience.
  • Validation testing (DV, PV, HALT, HASS, etc.).
  • Building custom test fixtures or automated test equipment.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
  • Environmental testing including thermal and vibration.

What Makes Someone Successful

  • You're a fast learner who can absorb unfamiliar technical information and put it to use quickly.
  • You're naturally curious and enjoy figuring out why something isn't working.
  • You're comfortable being handed a drawing or schematic and figuring out how the system works.
  • You can communicate what you're seeing and explain your troubleshooting process clearly to technicians and engineers.
  • You take ownership of problems rather than waiting for someone else to provide the answer.
  • You thrive in a prototype environment where priorities and designs continually evolve.
  • You take pride in quality, organization, and attention to detail.
