Job Description

Direct Support Professional
Sierra Salem Christian Homes | Modesto, CA
Part-time | AM / PM / NOC | $18.50 to $19.50 per hour

About Us
Sierra Salem Christian Homes is a faith-based nonprofit serving adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in four small residential homes in Modesto. Our residents aren't patients in a facility. They're people living in their own homes, with their own routines, friendships, and goals. Our care grows out of a Christ-centered belief that every person has dignity, worth, and the capacity to grow.

About the Role
As a Direct Support Professional, you'll be one of the most important people in a resident's daily life. You'll help with personal care and daily routines, support residents as they build skills and independence, join them in the community, and work alongside families, nurses, and your team to carry out each person's individual plan. The work is hands-on and meaningful, and it makes a real difference.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, meals, and mobility, in ways that protect their dignity and build independence
  • Carry out each resident's Individual Program Plan and document progress accurately in our electronic record system (Therap)
  • Assist with medications as trained and assigned, following facility protocols and licensing requirements
  • Offer encouragement and emotional support, and help residents stay socially engaged
  • Support residents at appointments, community outings, social events, and recreational activities
  • Watch for changes in health, mood, or behavior and report them promptly to your supervisor or nurse
  • Keep the home clean, safe, and welcoming, including meal preparation and light housekeeping
  • Follow incident reporting procedures and fulfill your responsibilities as a mandated reporter

Minimum Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to obtain a criminal record clearance through Live Scan fingerprinting
  • Able to pass a health screening, including TB testing
  • Able to read, understand, and follow written care plans and instructions
  • Strong communication skills and a patient, dependable work ethic
  • Able to perform the physical demands of the role, including assisting with transfers and standing for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • [Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record, for positions that include transporting residents]

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting people with disabilities or in a caregiving role
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Completed DSP Year One or Year Two training
  • Experience with electronic documentation, such as Therap

No experience? That's okay. If you have a caring heart and a strong work ethic, we'll teach you the rest.

What We Offer

  • 40 hours of paid orientation before you work on your own
  • CPR and First Aid certification, paid by us, on paid time
  • Support completing state DSP Year One and Year Two training, a recognized credential in the developmental services field
  • Ongoing paid in-service training
  • Health insurance for eligible employees
  • Paid time off and sick leave
  • Other: retirement, shift differentials, referral bonus
  • A small, mission-driven organization where leadership knows your name
