Job DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a non-profit organization in Fullerton, California. This position combines core accounting leadership with significant payroll responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who is equally comfortable managing month-end activities and overseeing accurate payroll processing. The successful candidate will bring strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain precise financial records in a mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
• Manage month-end close activities, including preparing journal entries, reviewing account activity, and ensuring timely completion of financial reporting tasks.
• Maintain the general ledger by recording, analyzing, and correcting transactions to support accurate financial statements.
• Oversee payroll operations for a substantial portion of the role, ensuring employees are paid accurately and in compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
• Reconcile accounts receivable balances and investigate discrepancies to keep records complete and current.
• Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations, resolving variances and documenting findings as needed.
• Prepare and review supporting schedules, account analyses, and other documentation required for audits and internal review.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to address accounting and payroll questions, improve accuracy, and support day-to-day financial operations.
• Use payroll and accounting systems effectively, including Dayforce, to process transactions and maintain reliable records.• Experience working in a senior accounting role with responsibility for general ledger activity and month-end close.
• Strong knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliation, and bank reconciliation processes.
• Hands-on payroll experience, including use of automated payroll systems.
• Familiarity with Dayforce or similar payroll platforms.
• Ability to reconcile accounts receivable and identify the source of reporting variances.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage accounting and payroll priorities simultaneously.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
