SUMMARY
The marine husbandry Aquarist II (Invertebrate Focus) is responsible for the daily care and health management of all marine livestock with a focus on the invertebrate livestock in the facility. These duties include but are not limited to distributing feeds to all marine livestock, water quality sampling and testing, tank cleaning, inventory control, and recognition and treatment of diseases, making and distributing saltwater, and other husbandry-related tasks as assigned.
Primary RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Remove deceased animals from the holding systems
- Water testing and data entry
- Mix and distribute chemicals
- Oversee and manage coral fragging processes
- Prepare and distribute feeds to livestock
- Clean and maintain tanks, systems, and work areas5848
- Administer treatments to maintain coral health
- Update and maintain accurate inventory records
- Prepare arrival and holding spaces for incoming shipments
Secondary RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Assist livestock acclimation, freshwater husbandry, fish husbandry, packing and picking, facility maintenance teams.
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualification/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field or equivalent experience
- Weekend and holiday work required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
- Knowledge of marine fishes and invertebrates required
- Fish pathology, coral husbandry, and coral propagation a plus
- Aquarium keeping, preferred (Ever kept a fish tank? Let us know!)
Physical Requirements
Standing for more than 7 hours per day.
Able to lift 60 lbs.
