Job Description

Who We Are
\n

Sanhu House is a postpartum doula care company rooted in sanhujori – the Korean tradition of mother-centered recovery built on three pillars: Warmth, Rest, and Nourishment. We serve families across Los Angeles and Orange County who believe the fourth trimester deserves the same quality of care as everything that came before it.

\n

Most of the postpartum industry focuses on the baby. We don't. We focus on the mother: her recovery, her nourishment, her rest, her transition into this new version of herself. And we believe that when the mother is truly cared for, everything else falls into place. The baby is one part of postpartum care. The mother is the part that gets overlooked, and she's the reason we exist.

\n

We built Sanhu House because we believe this work deserves better infrastructure, better training, and a higher standard than what most doulas have access to. If you've been practicing long enough to know that's true, we'd like to talk.

\n

About the Role
\n

You'll provide in-home postpartum care to families across LA and Orange County, day and overnight shifts, as part of a doula team, with real support behind you. What makes this different from other places you've worked: you won't be figuring things out alone. You'll know what a family needs before your first interaction with them. You'll have continuity between shifts; not just yours, but across the entire care team. And you're not the only one paying attention. We check in on every family at key milestones throughout their postpartum recovery– not just when something goes wrong, but as part of how we practice. The people behind the scenes are tracking each mother's care arc as carefully as you are. This is a 1099 independent contractor role. You set your own availability and coverage areas.

\n

What We Offer
\n

    \n
  • Families who are ready for you. Our clients come to us because they already believe postpartum recovery matters. You won't spend your energy explaining why you're there. You'll spend it doing the work you trained for.
  • \n

  • Preparation you can feel. You'll never walk into a home wondering what you're walking into. We've built our entire process around making sure you have context, continuity, and confidence before every shift.
  • \n

  • Training that changes how you practice. Whatever your background – birth work, nursing, newborn care, full-spectrum doula practice – our sanhujori training brings it together under a mother-centered framework. Doulas who go through it tell us it reframes everything they thought they knew about postpartum care. The mother becomes the center, and everything else organizes around her.
  • \n

  • A team, not a roster. You're not a name on a list waiting for a shift to open up. You're part of a coordinated care team with real communication, real continuity, and people who will pick up the phone when you need them.
  • \n

  • A company that protects the work. We invest in the systems, the training, and the standards so that you can focus on being present with a mother and her family. The infrastructure is invisible to the client, but you'll feel it from your first day.
  • \n

\n

The Best Candidates
\n

You have a postpartum doula certification and at least two years of hands-on experience. You're strong in feeding support. You're comfortable with day and overnight shifts. You have reliable transportation to serve families across your coverage area in LA or Orange County. You're willing to complete our sanhujori training program.

\n

\n

That's the floor. Here's what actually makes someone right for Sanhu House:

\n

    \n
  • You center the mother. You've watched this industry orient almost entirely around the newborn, and something about that has never sat right with you. You understand that a mother's recovery (physical, emotional, psychological) is the foundation that everything else rests on. You don't just believe that in theory. It shows up in how you practice.
  • \n

  • You're still growing. Whether you come from a nursing background, a birth doula practice, newborn care, or something else entirely, you're open to learning a framework that may challenge assumptions you didn't know you had. You don't see training as remedial, you see it as the thing that separates good practitioners from great ones.
  • \n

  • You want structure, not just freedom. You've worked places where no one was paying attention to the quality of the care. Where the bar was "show up and be warm" and that was it. That bothered you. You're drawn to a company that has standards and actually built the systems to uphold them because you know that structure protects the mother, not just the business.
  • \n

  • You think ahead of the ask. You don't wait for a mother to tell you what she needs. You read the room. You notice what she isn't saying. You act before she has to ask, because by the time a postpartum mother is asking for help, she's already past the point where someone should have offered.
  • \n

  • You hold the work with care. You're walking into someone's home during one of the most vulnerable, disorienting, and sacred transitions of their life. You hold that with discretion, with warmth, and with a standard you'd want for your own family. This isn't a gig for you. It's a practice, and you're looking for a company that treats it that way.
