Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring acute recovery experience and call coverage in a fast-paced acute care setting.

Details\n

    \n
  • Work in the Main PACU unit of an acute care hospital, with 8 PACU beds and 7 pre-op beds
  • \n

  • Patient population includes total hip/knee replacements, general surgery, daVinci robotic, neuro, and urology cases
  • \n

  • PACU may care for ICU-level patients until ICU beds become available
  • \n

  • Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2
  • \n

  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • \n

  • Varied 12-hour day shifts Monday through Friday, with start times ranging from 0500 to 0930
  • \n

  • Required call coverage with a 30-minute response time, averaging 5 weekend and 8 weeknight call shifts per quarter
  • \n

  • Weeknight call hours are 2200-0500 or 2200-0700; weekend call hours are 0700-1900 or 1900-0700
  • \n

  • No in-house weekend staffing; weekends covered by call only
  • \n

  • Holiday rotation required alongside core staff
  • \n

  • Possible floating between Main and OPSC units as needed
  • \n

  • Charge nurse support available on unit
  • \n

  • IV team available if needed
  • \n

  • 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support, plus in-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage
  • \n

  • 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
  • \n

Requirements\n

    \n
  • Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) required; pending licenses not accepted
  • \n

  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS (AHA)
  • \n

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • \n

  • Acute post-anesthesia recovery experience required
  • \n

  • Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
  • \n

  • Two professional references required: one supervisor reference within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor reference within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • \n

  • Copy of driver's license required, with legal name matching government-issued ID exactly
  • \n

  • Provide post-anesthesia recovery care across a varied surgical patient population
  • \n

  • Not a designated trauma hospital
  • \n

  • Scrubs provided by facility
  • \n

  • Must complete a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to start, with up to 2 attempts to achieve an 80% score; failing both attempts results in a 6-month do-not-use status with CommonSpirit Sacramento and Arizona facilities
  • \n

  • Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on the first day of orientation; failing both attempts results in a 6-month do-not-use status with CommonSpirit Sacramento and Arizona facilities
  • \n

  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
