About Gilmore's Auto Service

Gilmore's Auto Service is seeking a B-Level Automotive Technician in Walnut Creek, California.

We're a small, independent automotive repair shop specializing in maintenance, diagnostics, and general repairs, primarily for domestic and Asian vehicles, including Honda, Toyota, and Ford. We also service occasional European vehicles, fleet vehicles, and classic cars.

Our team includes experienced technicians who have been with the shop for six and more than ten years. If you enjoy hands-on mechanical repairs, troubleshooting vehicle problems, and working directly with a small team, this is an opportunity to put your experience to work without a regular weekend schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair automotive mechanical, electrical, and drivability issues using diagnostic equipment and established troubleshooting procedures.
Perform general automotive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on domestic and Asian vehicles, with occasional European and fleet work.
Complete brake repairs, suspension repairs, steering system repairs, and rack-and-pinion replacements.
Diagnose and replace engine components, including performing complete engine and transmission replacements when needed.
Perform intermediate to advanced automotive diagnostics, including electrical troubleshooting and related repairs.
Complete Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVIs) using Tekmetric and document vehicle conditions and recommended repairs.
Communicate repair recommendations, required jobs, and necessary parts to the shop owner to support repair planning.
Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow shop safety procedures.

Qualifications

Experience Required: At least 5 years of professional automotive repair experience required, with the skills expected of a B-Level Automotive Technician.
Diagnostic Skills: Intermediate to advanced experience diagnosing drivability, mechanical, and electrical problems.
Mechanical Repair: Experience with brakes, suspension, steering systems, engine components, and general automotive maintenance.
Major Repairs: Ability to handle engine and transmission replacements when these jobs arise.
Tools: Must have personal basic automotive repair tools appropriate for the position.
ASE Certifications: ASE certification is highly preferred. Candidates without current certifications will also be considered, with certification expectations discussed during the hiring process.
Digital Inspections: Experience with digital vehicle inspections is preferred. Willingness to learn the shop's Tekmetric DVI system is expected.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $27–$35 per hour, based on experience.
Pay Structure: Hourly compensation, not flat rate.
Pay Schedule: Paid weekly.
Paid Time Off: PTO provided, including sick time within the PTO offered.
Paid Holidays: Five paid holidays.
Shop Environment: Four service bays and four lifts, including an alignment rack.
Professional Equipment: Shop-provided TOPDON diagnostic equipment and Tekmetric shop management and digital inspection software.
Uniforms: Shop-provided uniforms.
