Job Description
Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant
Location:
Bellflower, CA 90706
Company:
Antonio N Romero MD, INC. Orthopedic Surgery, Spinal Surgery
Job description:
NP/or PA
Orthopedic / Orthopedic spine surgery practice in sunny southern CA seeking an Nurse Practitioner NP (ideally with a 104 license), or Physician Assistant PA for office/clinic, medical legal evaluations, hospital rounding, and possibly surgical assistance in the Operating Room(s).
Employment type: part-time, possible full-time
FLSA status: nonexempt
Compensation: $40-$60/hr TO START.
IN ADDITION to hourly rate with the practice, an NP may function as a pre-operative clearance provider and bill for such services. That is, the NP can see the patients identified as needing surgery and care for them appropriately, ordering tests and prescribing medications, until patient is a viable candidate/acceptable risk for the procedure they are recommended by the surgeon(s) to have.
These pre-operative clinic encounters could be billed for separately with the NP as the sole provider using their NPI. As such, the NP would keep ALL the reimbursement for those PRE-OPERATIVE encounters, and potentially POST-OPERATIVE encounters as follow up for medical conditions managed.
That reimbursement is essentially LIMITLESS. The NP provider would only be limited by the number of encounters/patients they wish to see. In-house Practice Manager/HR specialist would assist the NP to be credentialed with the various IPA insurances to ensure that such compensation would be billable. Further, the practice’s in-house Certified Medical Billing Specialist (CMBS) is available, willing and able to bill for NP clinical encounters on the NP’s behalf.
Therefore, compensation for working at this practice is hourly rate (provided by surgeon) PLUS billable encounters as an independent provider, i.e. an NP. This number could easily be in the $250K annual range, again limited only by the NPs number of billable encounters.
Re: surgeon assistance, once the NP is credentialed at the various facilities where the surgeon(s) perform surgeries, the NP can work directly with the surgeon(s) to assist in cases ranging from joint reconstruction, e.g. total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) to spine surgery cases, e.g. multi-level Lumbar laminectomies, cervical anterior discectomy and fusion (ACDF), as well as smaller cases such as carpal tunnel releases (CTRs) and arthroscopic procedures on the shoulders and knees. Surgical Assistants can bill independently of the surgeon performing the case. This reimbursable amount varies up to several hundred dollars or more/ case. In-house Practice Manager/HR specialist would assist the NP to be credentialed with the various IPA insurances to ensure that such surgical assistance would be billable. Further, the practice’s in-house Certified Medical Billing Specialist (CMBS) is available, willing and able to bill for NP surgeries on the NP’s behalf.
IN SUMMARY, compensation for working at this practice is hourly rate (provided by surgeon) PLUS billable encounters as an independent provider, i.e. an NP. Additionally, there is billable reimbursement for surgical assistance in the Operating Room(s). Combined, this results in TOTAL COMPENSATION easily in the $350-450K annual range, again limited essentially only by the NPs number of billable encounters, and numbers of surgeries in which the NP is willing and able to assist.
