Job Description
Job Description
Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist (Cross-Trained) – Part-Time
Animal Healing Center – San Diego, CA
Compassionate care for pets—and a calmer workday for you
Are you an experienced veterinary assistant with a knack for customer service? At Animal Healing Center, we believe in healing through balance—for our patients, our clients, and our team. If you’re ready for a less hectic environment and want to rediscover the joy of veterinary medicine, we’d love to meet you.
We’re a holistic veterinary clinic in San Diego seeking a friendly, dependable team member to work in both our treatment area and at the front desk. This is an in-person position, approximately 20–30 hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours covering team members’ vacations or sick days. Daytime availability is required.
What You’ll Do
Our veterinary assistants have meaningful, hands-on roles and the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients and clients. Responsibilities include:
- Performing treatments such as laser and ozone therapy, digital thermography, and microbiome restoration
- Supporting our DVMs with holistic therapies and patient care
- Drawing blood and placing IV catheters in dogs and cats
- Following up with clients and helping maintain strong, trusting relationships
- Greeting clients and patients, answering phones, and relaying questions to and from the medical team
- Requesting and sending medical records, monitoring email, and helping clients learn about our services
- Completing basic computer tasks, including saving, renaming, uploading, emailing, faxing, and word processing
- Keeping treatment and reception areas clean and organized
Many of our patients visit regularly, giving you the chance to get to know them and their people over time.
What We Don’t Do
We are a non-traditional practice focused on gentle, integrative care. We do not provide anesthesia, surgery, dental procedures, X-rays, grooming, emergency triage, or hospitalization.
Our services include modalities such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, Chinese herbal medicine, homeopathy, laser therapy, ozone therapy, microbiome restoration, and fear-free techniques.
What We’re Looking For
- At least one year of experience handling animals in a veterinary clinic
- Confidence and experience performing blood draws and placing IV catheters in dogs and cats
- Strong customer service, communication, and phone skills
- Ability to multitask in a busy office and work independently
- Basic Windows and computer skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- An open mind and genuine interest in alternative and integrative veterinary care
Experience with holistic therapies is welcome, and training on our modalities is available for the right candidate.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is based on experience. Benefits include:
- Paid time off
- Paid sick leave
- Employee discounts on services
- A supportive atmosphere that values professional growth and well-being
If you’re ready to bring your technical skills and compassionate approach to whole-animal care, we’d love to hear from you.
Please do not call. Apply by email only.
