Robert Half Management Resources is seeking a hands-on Interim Payroll Manager with strong ADP Workforce Now knowledge to support our nonprofit client in a hybrid role based in West Los Angeles for a 3+ month engagement. Reporting to the Controller, this consultant will lead payroll processing, compliance, and payroll systems administration for an employee population of 100–300. Serving as the organization’s primary payroll lead, this individual contributor will also play a key role in stabilizing a recent ADP Workforce Now implementation and resolving outstanding payroll system issues.


Responsibilities:

• Lead the complete semi-monthly payroll cycle for both union and non-union employees, ensuring payments are processed accurately and on schedule.

• Act as the primary owner and administrator of ADP Workforce Now and Workforce Manager, maintaining system functionality and supporting payroll operations.

• Review payroll activity in detail, including earnings, accrual balances, tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and garnishments to confirm accuracy and compliance.

• Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to address payroll system setup issues, improve configurations, and resolve items related to accruals and benefits interfaces.

• Assist with payroll tax filings, year-end payroll activities, balance sheet reconciliations, and audit support as needed.

• Partner closely with Human Resources, Benefits, and Accounting teams to preserve data accuracy and streamline payroll-related workflows.

• Investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve payroll reliability and process efficiency.


• At least 5 years of payroll experience, including prior lead or management-level responsibility.

• Strong hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now, including payroll administration and system oversight.

• Solid understanding of California payroll tax requirements, wage and hour compliance, garnishment processing, and accrual tracking.

• Previous experience supporting payroll in a union environment is preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to perform payroll audits, reconciliations, and issue resolution with a high degree of accuracy.

• Advanced Excel skills and exceptional attention to detail.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills for working effectively across payroll, HR, benefits, and accounting functions.
