Lisa Cole with Robert Half is working with a growing company that is adding an Accounting Manager to the team. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, leadership experience as well has experience managing sales and use tax reporting for multiple states. This is an in the office position based in Sacramento.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting functions and support accurate, timely financial reporting.
- Take a hands-on role in month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Review work and appropriately allocate responsibilities across the accounting team.
- Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to accounting staff.
- Lead multi-state sales and use tax compliance, reporting, filings, and reconciliations.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on sales and use tax matters.
- Research and interpret multi-state contractor, manufacturer, retailer, and fabrication tax regulations.
- Maintain exemption and resale certificates, business registrations, and tax documentation.
- Determine tax treatment for furnish-only and furnish-and-install contracts.
- Identify manufacturing exemptions, tax incentives, and tax-saving opportunities.
- Lead state and local sales and use tax audits and manage responses, appeals, and refund claims.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Strong hands-on accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
- Strong multi-state sales and use tax compliance and research experience.
- Knowledge of sales/use tax exemptions, audits, and state-specific regulations.
- Manufacturing and/or construction industry experience highly preferred.
- Ability to balance hands-on responsibilities with team leadership and delegation.
- Strong analytical, research, communication, and problem-solving skills.
