Job Title: Design Engineer
The Design Engineer designs, implements, and optimizes manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and safety while developing custom mechanical equipment and components based on customer and operational requirements. This role focuses on mechanical and manufacturing engineering, taking projects from concept through production and ensuring designs are practical, reliable, and manufacturable.
Responsibilities
- Design custom mechanical components, assemblies, and equipment based on project requirements.
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Create and modify 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Design and integrate mechanical and fluid power systems into larger equipment assemblies.
- Collaborate with operations, production, and stakeholders to define requirements and develop engineering solutions.
- Support projects from concept through manufacturing, including design reviews and production readiness activities.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing and mechanical issues and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with machining, fabrication, and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
- Manage engineering deliverables and project timelines.
- Identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards and best practices.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience using SolidWorks or similar CAD software for mechanical design.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience in mechanical engineering, product design, or manufacturing engineering.
- Experience designing mechanical systems, assemblies, and components.
- Proficiency with CAD software and engineering drawing creation.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Understanding of machining, fabrication, and design-for-manufacturing concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience supporting projects from concept through production.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and priorities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma tools and methodologies.
- Experience supporting custom-engineered products or industrial equipment.
- Exposure to manufacturing operations and production environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to interface with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
- Interest in seeing products move from design through fabrication and production.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on environment with direct impact on finished products.
