The Opportunity

Our client is a well-established, rapidly growing multi-location organization backed by an experienced investment group. With operations across multiple states and continued expansion underway, the company is looking for a strong Controller to take ownership of its accounting and financial reporting function.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting leader who enjoys being close to the business. The Controller will lead the accounting team, oversee the monthly close and financial reporting process, partner directly with senior leadership, and help strengthen the financial infrastructure needed to support the company’s next stage of growth.

This is not simply a reporting role. The organization is looking for someone who can understand the numbers, identify what is driving performance, and clearly communicate financial trends, risks, and opportunities to leadership.

Position Overview

The Controller will oversee the company’s day-to-day accounting and financial operations while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of its financial records.

This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibility for monthly and annual close, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting support, internal controls, cash management, and development of the accounting team.

A key component of the role will be preparing and presenting monthly financial packages to senior leadership and other key stakeholders. The successful candidate will be able to translate complex financial and operational information into clear, actionable business insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the monthly and annual financial close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare comprehensive monthly financial reporting packages and presentations for senior leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Analyze financial and operating performance, identifying important trends, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring management attention.
  • Ensure financial reporting is completed in accordance with lender requirements and other applicable deadlines.
  • Partner with leadership in the development of annual budgets, forecasts, and longer-term financial planning.
  • Prepare monthly budget-to-actual and forecast-to-actual variance analyses and clearly communicate the underlying drivers.
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting processes, procedures, internal controls, and reporting capabilities as the organization continues to grow.
  • Support cash management and other treasury-related activities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, including professionals supporting financial analysis, payroll, accounts payable, and billing.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operational and executive leadership to provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and accuracy across the accounting function.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong knowledge of GAAP.
  • Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within a growing, multi-location, or private equity-backed organization is highly desirable.
  • Experience within financial services or other operationally complex service-based environments is beneficial.
  • Strong financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate financial information effectively to senior executives and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Experience with NetSuite and Paylocity preferred.
  • Comfortable operating in a hands-on capacity while also leading and developing a team.
  • Willingness to work within a hybrid schedule based in Cypress, California.

Compensation

Expected base compensation is $160,000–$180,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.
