Job Description

Smog / Automotive Technician: $35–$55 per Flagged Hour | $100,000+ Annual Earning Potential

Tired of inconsistent workflow, poor communication, and spending more time chasing answers than fixing cars? Want strong earning potential and your weekends back? Sullivan’s Auto Service wants to talk to you.

We’re looking for an experienced Smog / Automotive Technician who can perform accurate smog inspections, diagnose problems, and complete quality repairs. If you take pride in your craftsmanship and want to work with a team that follows through, you’ll fit here.

Sullivan’s Auto Service is a busy, independently owned shop serving Del Rey Oaks and the Monterey Peninsula. You get steady workflow, clear expectations, and the opportunity to put your skills to work across a variety of makes and models. We use Tekmetric to keep inspections, documentation, and communication organized.

We believe in doing things right: solid diagnostics, honest recommendations, and repairs that stay fixed. Our technicians document what they find, communicate what’s needed, and verify their work before the vehicle leaves. Every vehicle carries our reputation, and we expect our team to treat it that way.

The crew here works hard, moves with purpose, and takes ownership. We value direct communication, teamwork, and a professional shop environment.

What you can expect:

  • Monday through Friday—no weekends
  • $35–$55 per flagged hour, based on experience, licensing, and ability
  • $100,000+ annual earning potential, based on productivity and flat-rate earnings
  • Ongoing training opportunities with paid training travel
  • Health insurance with 50% employer-paid coverage
  • Dental and vision options
  • Disability coverage option
  • 401(k) with employer match up to 3.5% after one year
  • Paid time off, seven paid holidays, and five paid sick days
  • Employee parts purchases at cost

What you’ll do:

  • Perform smog inspections accurately and follow applicable BAR requirements
  • Diagnose check-engine lights, emissions concerns, and mechanical problems
  • Complete automotive maintenance and repairs
  • Perform thorough digital inspections with clear notes and photos
  • Communicate findings and repair needs to service advisors
  • Verify completed repairs and maintain a low comeback rate

What we require:

  • Current California Smog Check Inspector license
  • Proven automotive diagnostic and repair experience
  • Smog Check Repair Technician license and ASE certifications preferred
  • Ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality
  • Your own tools appropriate for the work
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Dependable attendance and a professional attitude
  • Ownership of your work—from inspection through final quality check

Ready to put your skills to work at a shop with clear standards and your weekends free? Submit your resume with your current licenses, certifications, and repair experience. Let’s talk.
