We are looking for a Grant Accountant to support a non-profit organization serving youth and families in Oakland, California. This 3 month Contract position is ideal for an accounting specialist who can manage grant-related financial activity, strengthen reporting accuracy, and partner with program and finance leaders to support funding compliance. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to an organization focused on equitable access to behavioral health services while helping maintain strong financial stewardship across public and reimbursable funding sources.
Responsibilities:
• Develop financial projections for grant-funded programs and track spending patterns across reimbursable agreements.
• Support the creation and oversight of grant budgets, program financial reporting, and ongoing budget-to-actual reviews.
• Analyze grant-related financial data, reconcile general ledger accounts, and identify discrepancies requiring follow-up.
• Complete grant closeout activities and prepare documentation needed to satisfy sponsor and contract requirements.
• Partner with internal teams on pre-award and post-award grant administration to help ensure timely and accurate financial support.
• Review accounting transactions for alignment with funding terms, internal controls, and applicable contract conditions.
• Work with department leaders to explain budget variances, provide financial guidance, and improve understanding of program performance.
• Maintain current knowledge of government and other funding sources, including reporting expectations and compliance standards.
• Contribute technical and analytical support during annual budget preparation and assist program staff with financial processes as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• At least 3 years of accounting experience, with preference for work in nonprofit organizations, healthcare settings, or community-based services.
• Hands-on experience with grant accounting, fund administration, and government-funded programs.
• Solid understanding of the full accounting cycle, including general ledger activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll processes.
• Strong analytical ability with experience performing reconciliations, financial review, and variance analysis.
• Proficiency with computerized accounting platforms, preferably Abila MIP, along with strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately in a deadline-driven environment.
