Additional specialized in training in school transportation or a related field is desirable. Bilingual, oral and written in Spanish (preferred).\nPrior experience working in a school district setting (preferred).\nLicense or Certificate:\nPossession of a California School Bus Driver Certificate and Class B-P Driver License.\nPossession of, or ability to obtain, a California School Bus Driver Instructor Certificate, issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.\nA valid First Aid and CPR certificate\nMedical Examination Report (DOT)\nPassing of District lifting exam\n\nWe are currently looking to fill one position Managing the River Delta USD Transportation Department. The District has 8 small schools: (4) K-6 elementary schools; (2) middle schools; and (2) high schools serving the communities of Clarksburg, Hood, Courtland, Walnut Grove, Ryde, Locke, Isleton, Rio Vista, Birds Landing, and Collinsville.\n The River Delta Unified School District sits in three counties – Sacramento, Solano, and Yolo. The district encourages advancement on the salary schedule for advanced classes taken to improve instruction in areas agreed upon by the teacher, principal, and Superintendent. \n\nRIVER DELTA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT\nSUPERVISOR OF TRANSPORTATION\nDEFINITION\nTo supervise, assign, evaluate, and participate in the work of school bus and vehicle drivers; to plan and prepare bus and vehicle routes and daily schedules of employees; to transport pupils as needed; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.\nSUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED\nReceives general direction from the Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation and/or Assistant Superintendent of Business Services.\nExercises direct supervision over mechanics, bus, and vehicle drivers.\nDUTIES\nEssential Functions:\n\n \n Plans, supervises, assigns, and reviews the work of school bus and vehicle drivers; recommends policies and procedures related to safety.\n \n Plans and coordinates transportation schedules and organizes emergency routing as needed to transport students. Develops optimal bus routes to minimize costs and maintain efficiency.\n \n Coordinates transportation for school field trips; collaborates with staff and school sites; plans and prepares a field trip schedule; assigns bus drivers; prepares billing invoices.\n \n Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives; implements approved policies and procedures.\n \n Establishes schedules and methods for providing transportation services; identifies staffing needs with appropriate management staff; allocates staff resources accordingly.\n \n Prepares daily assignments for all drivers; manages driver bidding process for each route; provides information over a two-way radio as necessary.\n \n Plans and develops bus routes; reviews maps of the area; determines safe and efficient routes.\n \n Coordinates transportation for school field trips; collaborates with staff and school sites; plans and prepares a field trip schedule; assigns bus drivers; prepares billing invoices.\n \n Coordinates and conducts bus training sessions with drivers; teaches behind-the-wheel training to new and experienced drivers; reviews driving tactics and techniques, and safety precautions.\n \n Develops training material; interprets and explains laws and regulations related to driving school buses and other transportation vehicles.\n \n Documents training hours and curriculum; ensures compliance with state and federal laws and District policy.\n \n Receives calls for substitute drivers; call and assign substitute drivers.\n \n Assures proper licenses for all transportation drivers including substitute drivers and maintains accurate records of expiration dates.\n \n Coordinates the review of records from the California Department of Motor Vehicles regarding district driver violations and takes appropriate action.\n \n Serves as liaison between drivers and the schools.\n \n Communicates with parents and staff to resolve issues or concerns as needed; resolves and responds to parent complaints.\n \n Manages the driver/rider tracking system.\n \n Serves as point of contact with the Comprehensive Drug Testing (CDT) program. Schedules, and monitors results of employment and random drug testing.\n \n Serves as point of contact with the State of California Department of Transportation and California Highway Patrol for the purpose of scheduling inspections and resolving any issues.\n \n Supervises and conducts investigations of complaints from the public and district personnel regarding transportation personnel or services.\n \n Performs safety and maintenance checks on buses; identifies defects and documents on appropriate forms. Schedules and assigns repairs on school buses, vehicles, and other automotive equipment.\n \n Prepares a variety of reports on activities and operations. Prepares statistical and financial reports and maintains daily logs related to transportation activities.\n \n Prepares budget data for transportation department.\n \n Makes field decisions and recommendations regarding adverse weather, road, bus stop conditions and student safety issues.\n \n Develops and maintains contact with local, state, and federal agencies regarding driver education, student safety, driver safety records, and equipment safety requirements.\n \n Recommends and implements changes in department rules, regulations, and procedures affecting transportation activities.\n \n Coordinates the revision of school bus driver handbooks, inspection and emergency procedures, safety procedures, and other handbooks and bulletins.\n \n Identifies safety hazards; recommends corrective actions.\n \n Drives school buses or other vehicles to transport students as needed; operate wheelchair lifts and restraints; determine health related concerns; follow up as necessary.\n \n Supervises the conduct of students while on the school bus and other vehicles; review bus rules and appropriate student behavior; issue citations as necessary.\n \n Implements and maintains safety and vehicle inspection programs.\n \n Supervises the maintenance and security of files and records relating to investigations, complaints, accidents, safety inspections, and the licensing of district drivers.\n \n Maintains trip records; count the students; document any unusual occurrences.\n \n Performs other related duties as assigned.\n\nMarginal Functions:\n\n \n Performs a variety of record keeping functions.\n \n Fills in during the absence of drivers.\n \n Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.\n\nQUALIFICATIONS\nKnowledge of:\nDuties performed by bus and vehicle drivers.\nPertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations\nCalifornia Motor Vehicle Code, Handbook for School Bus Drivers of the School District, traffic ordinances of the City and County and California Highway Patrol and federal regulations pertaining to student transportation.\nOperational characteristics of school buses and district vehicles\nMaintenance rules, regulations and procedures for school buses and vehicles\nPrinciples and practices of management, supervision, and training\nEvaluation practices, methods, and design\nModern office methods and equipment, including computers.\nMathematical principles\nFirst aid methods and techniques\nPrinciples and methods of skill training to operate buses.\nBusiness letter writing, record keeping, and basic report preparation.\nResearch and development methods, techniques, and strategies\nProper English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation\nLabor laws, contract negotiations, management, and grievance processes\nPrinciples of dispatching and scheduling of school buses and other transportation vehicles\nSafety rules and practices related to bus and truck transportation operation.\nAbility to:\nPerform duties performed by bus drivers.\nDevelop and maintain effective interpersonal relations using tact, patience, and courtesy.\nMaintain reliable, punctual, and regular attendance.\nRecruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of lower-level staff.\nTeach bus operation techniques.\nUse good judgment in recommending appropriate administrative actions.\nPlan, coordinate, and organize work with necessary district staff.\nPrepare clear and concise reports, manuals, and written instructions.\nRead, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, district policies and procedures related to bus operation, transportation of students.\nRead maps.\nOperate a variety of modern equipment including computer equipment.\nAbility to learn and stay current on new software applications and programs.\nSustain productivity with frequent interruptions.\nDrive vehicles over specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules in order to transport passengers in case of bus or other vehicle driver shortages.\nMake confidential investigations.\nWork independently with little direction.\nPerform preventive maintenance checks on school buses and other district vehicles.\nCommunicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.\nEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.\nUnderstand and be sensitive to, and have respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of students, parents, faculty, and staff.\nMaintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for successful job performance.\nMaintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.\nParticipate in Drug Alcohol testing program as required by law.\nEXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES\nAny combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
